Are you an experienced organizer with a head full of ideas for getting people involved? In this role, you’ll support local groups in organizing creative campaigns and activities. In this way, you’ll help grow the climate movement across the country.
We are currently looking for a:
Movement Development Coordinator (0.8 FTE/30 hours)
What is organizing?
Organizing is a method for campaigning alongside people, building a progressive movement, and ultimately bringing about social change. An organizer tries to involve as many volunteers as possible in Milieudefensie’s campaigns and empowers them to take action on their own and develop their skills. We also call volunteers “change-makers.” The more people who join us, the more pressure we can put on major polluters. Polluters are powerful, but together we are stronger.
What will you be doing?
- You will inspire, motivate, and support various Milieudefensie groups and individuals who want to act as agents of change in support of Milieudefensie’s campaign.
- You are responsible for the ways in which we engage change-makers, so that they can contribute to Milieudefensie’s successful campaigns and initiatives through a variety of activities.
- You will actively contribute to building a nationwide network of local (action) groups. This will involve, among other things, organizing and carrying out online and offline campaigns and events.
- You will work independently on projects—both within your department and across the rest of the organization—that focus on building physical activity.
- Together with Milieudefensie, you’ll work to build an inclusive and diverse climate movement where everyone can participate.
What are you bringing?
- You have at least 5 years of experience in organizing and movement-building: engaging and connecting volunteers, working with volunteer groups, and driving change as part of a team.
- You are inspiring and a good communicator, and you have strong planning, organizational, and networking skills.
- You maintain a clear overview of what’s happening in the team and your groups.
- You are flexible, have a hands-on approach, and are willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- You have the ability to think strategically and analytically about the role of volunteers in Milieudefensie’s work and campaigns.
- You’re a good team player, a good listener, and you know how to inspire others to take action.
Who do you work with?
You’ll be working as part of a team of passionate organizers within the Movement Building department. Together, you’ll build a strong, active, and diverse movement of volunteers and local groups. You bring a wealth of experience to the table and serve as a key mentor for the new organizers on the team. You’ll help them grow in their roles and provide guidance when needed.
You’ll also work closely with other departments at Milieudefensie and, of course, with many volunteers across the country.
What do we offer?
- A one-year contract with the option to extend.
- A salary ranging from €3,560 to €5,476 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience. At Milieudefensie, this is a 37.5-hour workweek.
- Your own laptop that you take home with you every day, so you can work from home as well.
- The option to arrange your work hours flexibly and to swap (Christian) holidays for other holidays.
- A casual and open work environment with enthusiastic colleagues.
- A sufficient travel allowance, work-from-home allowance, and leave policy.
- An excellent pension plan at a.s.r.
- An office in Amsterdam Overamstel, accessible by bike and public transportation.
- Fresh fruit every day and a vegan lunch three days a week for a small fee.
- Free access to the OpenUp interactive platform for mental well-being.
Milieudefensie staff work partly from home. We meet both online and in the office.
We believe in the power of diversity and strive to build a diverse workforce with balanced representation across gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, and ethnic background. That is why we especially encourage people from groups that are underrepresented within the climate movement to apply.
