Located on the Nieuwe Haven in Dordrecht is the beautiful Van Gijn family home, which has been fully restored from basement to attic. It is perhaps one of the most beautiful and best-preserved historic homes in the Netherlands. Here, our visitors experience what life was like in a home from around 1900, both in terms of living and working. The house and garden offer countless opportunities to tell stories and organize activities for a variety of audiences. Both upstairs with a wealthy family and downstairs with the staff. With a well-rounded annual program, we aim to organize more events and reach a wider range of audiences. This presents a wonderful challenge for an enthusiastic and experienced educator who is eager to work in a historic home. Do you enjoy bringing history to life in a tangible way and would you like to help us achieve our goals? Then please read on and apply!
Educator at Huis Van Gijn
24 hours per week
Where will you be working?
Huis Van Gijn is part of the cultural organization Dordrechts Museum (70 FTE) of the municipality of Dordrecht, which also includes the Dordrecht Regional Archives, Hof van Nederland, and Dordrechts Museum.
We operate based on our belief in the power of art and history and their importance in helping people grow and relax. Our mission is to help as broad and diverse an audience as possible discover what our collection can mean to them. With this mission in mind, we undertake a wide range of activities, both within and outside the walls of our locations. It is essential that these activities and the stories we convey through them resonate well with the various target groups we aim to reach, from young to old. The Education & Public Information team (part of the Public Affairs department) ensures this by developing and overseeing programs and activities.
What will you be doing?
You will be part of the Education & Visitor Services team. This team is responsible for visitor services and educational programs at our locations: Dordrechts Museum, Huis Van Gijn, Hof van Nederland, and the Dordrecht Regional Archives. We are looking for a colleague within the team who will focus on our Huis Van Gijn location. Together with the curator, the Marketing & Communications staff member, and the floor manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Huis Van Gijn.
You feel at home in our enthusiastic and open culture, where quality is of the utmost importance. You have the ability to translate creative ideas into concrete projects. As a connector, you are well-equipped to translate the needs of various target groups into appropriate programs and resources. You also enjoy establishing and maintaining contacts with all kinds of parties with whom you can collaborate. Furthermore, you are a go-getter who knows how to get things done, without a 9-to-5 mentality. You are therefore willing to attend some of the organized activities when needed (occasionally in the evenings and on weekends).
