Sustainability Coordinator

The AHK Service Bureau is looking for a Sustainability Coordinator.

Who are you?

You are an enthusiastic and passionate professional with a keen eye for sustainability. You understand how important it is to get others on board with your vision and are able to guide change in a diverse and dynamic environment. Thanks to your analytical skills and creative perspective, you see opportunities for sustainable solutions, even in complex situations. You combine a proactive attitude with excellent communication skills and know how to inspire people. You feel at home in an international context.

With your experience in project management and sustainability, you know how to translate strategic goals into actionable steps. Whether it involves developing policy, leading projects, or raising awareness: you ensure that sustainability doesn’t remain just an ambition, but becomes part of our daily practice.

What will you be doing?

As a sustainability coordinator, you’ll be at the heart of the organization, serving as the link between policy, practice, and awareness. Together with colleagues, students, and external partners, you will work toward our goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2035. You will develop and implement a sustainability strategy aligned with the AHK’s strategic plan. In addition, you will coordinate projects in areas such as energy conservation, waste reduction, and circular processes.

You will closely monitor progress, ensure clear reporting, and present the results to all stakeholders in an inspiring way. Together with the Communications Department, you will raise awareness about sustainability and encourage behavioral change. You will also be responsible for maintaining sustainable partnerships with external parties, such as environmental organizations, government agencies, and other universities of applied sciences.

In addition, you play an important role in education and research. You inspire faculty and students to integrate sustainability into their studies and work, and help further develop sustainable initiatives within the academic programs. In this way, you directly contribute to the AHK’s social impact.

What do you bring to the table?

With a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Environmental Science, Sustainability, or Social Geography, and at least three years of experience in a similar role, you are well-prepared for this position. You have previously demonstrated your ability to coordinate complex projects and translate policy into results. You are innovative, solution-oriented, and know how to get people on board with your vision. You have excellent command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written, and can explain complex topics clearly and inspiringly. You are also a bridge-builder who collaborates effectively with various stakeholders, both within and outside the organization.

The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) consists of six academies: the Breitner Academy, the Academy of Architecture, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands Film Academy, the Reinwardt Academy, and the Academy of Theatre and Dance. Together, we offer a wide range of programs in the fields of art, culture, and heritage.

This is a permanent position with a workload of 0.8–1 FTE (32–40 hours). The position is classified in pay scale 11 (max. €6,359.47 gross per month for full-time employment). The AHK offers attractive employment conditions in accordance with the CAO-HBO, such as an 8% vacation allowance, an 8.3% year-end bonus, a generous vacation policy, and excellent opportunities for study and professional development. If you become our new colleague, we will require a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) upon starting employment.

The position is based in Amsterdam, and candidates should preferably live in that region. The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) operates on a hybrid work model, so you can work from home part of the time (up to 25–30%), with the flexibility required for this role.
