Are you great at inspiring children and young people? Do you know how to capture their attention? And would you like to use this skill—along with your expertise in media and news literacy—to help students navigate social media? Then read on, because we’re looking for a:Media Literacy Teacher (16 hours per week)
As a Media Literacy Instructor, you will lead workshops and masterclasses on media and news literacy for K-12 students, college students, and (future) teachers. In this role, you’ll have a unique opportunity to help foster discussions on important social issues!
These activities take place at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum, on-site at The Hague Library, as well as at elementary schools, secondary schools, vocational colleges, and universities of applied sciences throughout the Netherlands. We reach approximately 20,000 students and teachers every year! This means you’ll be visiting schools all over the country, and you enjoy being on the go, whether by car or public transportation.
As an experienced educator working with these target groups, you’re always open to doing even better; that’s your mindset. Being flexible, you adapt to the level (language use, attitude, difficulty) and the dynamics of each group. Do you find yourself facing an enthusiastic class full of energetic kids? You don’t shy away from this, but know how to take charge in a pedagogically sound way and earn the students’ respect. Through clear instruction and a program full of interaction, you guide groups in thinking about media, without losing sight of the fact that a visit to Beeld & Geluid should above all be fun.
Your initial contract is for one year. If we’re both satisfied, we’ll be happy to renew it. The gross monthly salary (on a full-time basis) ranges from a minimum of €2,705.57 to a maximum of €3,246.73 (Scale 7 of the Image & Sound Collective Labor Agreement).
As much as we enjoy working at Beeld & Geluid, we also place a high value on free time. That’s why you get a generous 25 vacation days and 24 ATV days per year (on a full-time basis). Can’t use them all? Then you can also use your vacation days for other fun things, such as buying an (electric) bike, a laptop, or taking that dream trip. We use a cafeteria model for this.
We offer training sessions two to three times a year to help you further your development as a Media Literacy Teacher, whether in the areas of pedagogy or teaching methods, or through subject-specific training focused on journalistic topics.
If you don’t quite meet our criteria but are still our ideal candidate, don’t hesitate to try to convince us.
Beeld & Geluid is the premier hub for media—in our Media Museum, online, and on-site. We are media experts and help you better understand media and reuse it yourself. We do this, for example, through workshops for students on fake news, research into disinformation, and interactive events for a broad audience. As one of the largest media archives in the world, we preserve all types of media, from radio and television programs to video games, podcasts, and social media.
With around 500 passionate colleagues, we contribute every day to a vibrant, media-savvy society where every voice is heard. Our six core values align seamlessly with this mission. We connect and surprise—and not only our building but also our collection is diverse and colorful. Our independent position makes us trustworthy and allows us to be forward-thinking. Cheerfulness is a positive value that we consider important both within and outside the organization.
At Beeld & Geluid, we place a high value on diversity and inclusion, including in the composition of our teams. No matter what your background is, what you believe in, or who you’re attracted to, we believe it’s important that you contribute enthusiastically to our shared ambitions and goals.
We’d love to hear how enthusiastic you are! Apply by March 3 using the application button and be sure to include your resume (in PDF format). We’d love to see a (short) cover letter, if you’d like to include one. We’re open to being surprised by the format! If you’d like to learn more about this position first, please contact Yves Eijck, Museum Educator Coordinator, at yeijck@beeldengeluid.nl.
This position is being advertised internally and externally at the same time. We will select the most suitable candidate; if candidates are equally qualified, the internal candidate will be given priority.
