The

The Rijksmuseum is the Netherlands' national museum of art and history, with a

collection of over 1 million items from and about the Netherlands dating from the

From the Middle Ages through the 20th century. We are at the heart of society, that

is reflected, for example, in our partners and exhibitions, but

also because we want to collect from multiple perspectives and the collection

highlight. We strive for diversity in our teams to achieve this.

Your new team
The Retail sub-department, part of the Communications & Marketing department, is responsible for curating and selling the merchandise collection through the Rijksmuseum’s stores, the online shop, and wholesale customers. In addition, the department is responsible for the retail licensing policy and managing licensing partners. The team consists of seven enthusiastic colleagues who work hard to achieve the commercial goals of the various sales channels.

What will you be doing
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring optimal inventory management, procurement, and logistics processes—covering financial, commercial, and efficiency aspects. You will provide advice on procurement and logistics issues both within and outside the department. In addition, you will monitor departmental processes and propose improvements. The core responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • You will ensure optimal inventory management by generating and evaluating forecasts based on sales figures, storage and purchasing conditions, and the budget.
  • You are responsible for maintaining an up-to-date product database, conducting periodic inventory checks, and performing inventory counts.
  • You will consult with key suppliers and logistics partners regarding inventory, transportation, purchasing, and storage.
  • You are the Product Owner for all IT systems within the department, including the D365 ERP system, and the backend owner of the online store.
  • You will be the central point of contact within the department when it comes to analyzing data and providing figures for meetings, annual plans, and quarterly goals.
  • You are the go-to person for your retail colleagues when they have questions, and you regularly participate in project groups both within and outside the department.

We ask

  • You have at least a college-level work and thinking ability and strong analytical skills.
  • You have strong communication skills (in both English and Dutch), are detail-oriented, and take initiative.
  • You have a commercial drive and knowledge of the logistics and administrative processes involved in procurement.
  • You enjoy thinking in terms of solutions rather than problems, and you’re flexible in this regard.
  • Experience with and knowledge of developing models in Excel and ERP systems is a plus.
  • You have an affinity for the cultural sector.

Terms of Employment The salary ranges from a minimum of €2,940 to a maximum of €3,849 gross per month (scale 9 as of July 2022), based on a 36-hour workweek, excluding vacation pay (8%) and year-end bonus (3.4%). The Museum Collective Labor Agreement applies. The appointment is for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension. We also offer:

  • Work in an inspiring and unique work environment.
  • 100% reimbursement of travel expenses if you live 5 km or more from the museum and use public transportation.
  • Unlimited learning with GoodHabitz e-learning courses.
  • A work-from-home budget to set up your home office.
  • A 36-hour workweek.
  • 194.4 vacation hours based on a 36-hour workweek (equivalent to 5.4 weeks).
  • After your probationary period, you’ll receive a free Museum Pass and unlimited access to the Rijksmuseum, plus one guest.
