Are you interested in research in the cultural sector, do you have strong digital skills, and would you like to assist a professor?
The Service Bureau of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) is seeking a Coordinator for the Social Justice and Diversity in the Arts (SRDK) Research Group, effective June 1, 2025.
As a coordinator, you take a pragmatic and hands-on approach and understand the importance of collaboration within the complex structure of a university of applied sciences comprising six academies. You support the professor in managing and executing projects, and are responsible for communication and budget management. You maintain contact with various departments and serve as the primary point of contact for the professorship. Your support enables the professor to focus on mentoring researchers, conducting their own research, and overseeing the research track.
It is important for this role that you can switch effortlessly between different systems and programs. Within the research group, we use the productivity tool Notion for communication, research reporting, collaboration, and process support, among other things. In addition, Adobe programs are used to create presentations, newsletters, and digital publications. Experience with these programs is a plus.
You will coordinate and support various research projects, workshops, lectures, seminars, events, and educational initiatives. You will play a crucial role in internal and external communication. In addition, you serve as the connecting link in the areas of administration, finance, documentation, communication, and reporting. You manage budgets, monitor deadlines, and contribute to the digital development of the research group and its projects. You work closely with the communications department to ensure that all information and activities of the research group are effectively shared.
You have several years of work experience, preferably in project management within an educational setting. As a result, you have a solid understanding of the operational aspects and needs of both education and research. You possess a college-level understanding, gained through your education and/or work experience. You have a knack for organizing processes related to the Research Group. You are dedicated and take pride in completing tasks with care.
Starting in November 2024, the Social Justice and Diversity in the Arts research group will be led by Dr. Naomi Bueno de Mesquita. The research group investigates how the arts, architecture, and heritage can contribute to creating a more just society.

The social issues we face are unprecedentedly complex. It is precisely because of this complexity that it is essential to make room for diverse perspectives. The arts are uniquely suited to allowing these diverse perspectives to coexist. Moreover, artistic research has the power to capture and convey the experiences of individuals and communities in a unique way, thereby anchoring our ability to empathize with others at a deeper level.
This research group therefore focuses on a cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approach.
The Social Justice and Diversity in the Arts research group is part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK). Within the AHK, this research group collaborates with all other research groups and academies. The AHK consists of six academies and seven research groups, five of which are affiliated with an academy. These are the Architecture & Circular Thinking research group (Academy of Architecture), the Music research group (Conservatory of Amsterdam), the Film research group (Netherlands Film Academy), the Cultural Heritage research group (Reinwardt Academy), and the ATD research group (Academy of Theater and Dance).
Naomi lives in Barcelona, but can often be found at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) in Amsterdam. Several people will be joining the team throughout the year. The team for this research group is based at the AHK campus on the Marineterrein in Amsterdam.
The AHK is deeply rooted in society and is committed to diversity and equal opportunity. We welcome employees from diverse backgrounds and strive to create an inclusive work environment where everyone feels safe and respected.
