Our work never stops. Day in and day out, we’re ready to protect what matters most. We fight fires, save lives, and provide assistance in the event of accidents. Better yet, we strive to stay one step ahead of problems. That’s why we’re committed to prevention and provide information and advice.
Our work is diverse; no two days are alike. Just like the people who work here. Not all firefighters wear helmets and fire-resistant clothing. From communications officers to mechanics, from controllers to HR advisors: we are all part of the Amsterdam-Amstelland Fire Department. Everyone contributes to the functioning of this organization based on their own expertise. Both full-time and part-time.
Our work is dynamic and demanding. We’re there for others, but also for each other—whether it’s with sound advice or an enthusiastic idea. We don’t think in terms of silos, but we believe it’s important for everyone in the fire department to feel at ease. After all, a pleasant work environment is essential for bringing out the best in yourself.
General Information
You will be working in the Control, Information, and Finance (CIF) department. The department is responsible for a range of tasks, including developing financial policy, preparing internal and external planning and control documents (such as budgets, financial statements, and reports), maintaining financial records, managing administrative operations, conducting internal controls, and performing audits. The Amsterdam-Amstelland Fire Department consists of three sectors and two staff units. The CIF department falls under the Operations sector.
Job Description: Controller
CIF employs account managers and controllers for each sector. This vacancy is for the position of Controller for the Fire Services sector. Within the Fire Service sector, 6 clusters and 4 departments (Professional Competence, Risk Management, Operational Preparedness, and the Fire Service Staff Office) work together on incident response (and preparation), risk management, and the ongoing development of the fire service organization. Two sector managers jointly oversee Fire Services. The Fire Services sector is supported by two controllers, one of whom is currently vacant.
As a controller, you serve as a “business partner” and act as the financial conscience of the sector. In this role, you provide both solicited and unsolicited advice to the sector’s management. In addition, you oversee the development of internal and external planning and control tools, contribute to risk management, and enhance the quality of management oversight. In addition to these regular duties, in your role as a controller, you make an essential contribution to various (change) projects both within and outside the sector.
If you’re the right candidate for this role, or if you’re a junior (assistant) controller looking to advance to the position of a full-fledged business controller, please apply. Your skills and a positive, constructive attitude are more important than experience and knowledge. This position is also open to you if you’ve just completed your studies.
