The library aims to be a place where everyone is welcome to spend time, learn, and grow—foreveryone, at every level.
One of the library’s core missions is to provide people with opportunities for ongoing personal development so they can participate—and continue to participate—in society. To be as self-reliant as possible, we need a wide range of basic skills, such as language, math, and digital skills. We want to encourage and support people who lack sufficient mastery of these skills—and that group is very large in the Netherlands—to take that step toward learning again.
To this end, we develop programs that give everyone the opportunity to take control of their own future. To help us shape and implement this process, we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic colleague to join our team.
Who are we?
The West Brabant Library provides library services to eight municipalities in West Brabant (Bergen op Zoom, Woensdrecht, Steenbergen, Roosendaal, Halderberge, Zundert, Rucphen, and Moerdijk). We carry out library functions in a contemporary and future-proof manner. To this end, we are transitioning from a “book-lending library” to a social-educational library where providing access to lifelong learning is central.Who are we looking for?
You find it rewarding to help people who need a little extra support. You’re skilled at building and maintaining a network, and you’re able to forge connections and create opportunities within various partnerships. You are able to serve multiple target groups: adult learners, as well as volunteers and professionals. You have the ability to engage them in the library’s story and the opportunities it offers. This ensures that, ultimately, as many people as possible who need it find a learning path that suits them and, as a result, gain a better sense of how to move forward.
So you’re truly a people person, with a keen sense of others’ learning needs and skill levels. You make sure everyone feels at home here.
What are you going to do?
- You will be jointly responsible for developing the basic skills program (language, digital skills, activation, and empowerment) for various target groups.
- You ensure alignment (continuous learning pathway) with the program areas of digital literacy, information literacy, and reading promotion.
- You organize activities at the branches and elsewhere.
- You will coordinate the communication and recruitment efforts for these activities in collaboration with other parties.
- As an expert, you’ll be out and about a lot: you’ll help build a network of relevant partners and contribute to reaching potential target audiences.
- You will help strengthen the image of the West Brabant Library by sharing your knowledge and expertise in the area of basic skills.
- You will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing educational programs focused on basic skills (learning pathways, activities, and workshops).
- You are responsible for sharing knowledge, providing instruction, and mentoring colleagues and volunteers who work with you to implement our educational programs at our locations.
- You will report on your work and the quality of our programs.
- You will be part of the Lifelong Learning team, where you will work alongside passionate and knowledgeable professionals.
What are we looking for?
- A positive, energetic, flexible, and enterprising attitude;
- At least 3 years of work experience coordinating projects and providing functional and substantive guidance to colleagues and project teams;
- Results-oriented;
- Ability to connect with diverse target groups (young, old, NT1, NT2);
- Excellent communication skills;
- You have mastered the art of networking to establish and develop constructive partnerships;
- Knowledge of teaching methods and an understanding of how to practically design and refine a learning activity or program;
- A good dose of creativity and the ability to approach the work in an innovative way.
What do we offer?
- An organization with a strong social mission;
- A dynamic, innovative organization where you’ll have plenty of room to contribute your own ideas and work independently;
- An organization that empowers its employees to pursue continuous professional development;
- Plenty of opportunity to help further develop our digital literacy programs;
- A one-year contract in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for public libraries (HBO);
- A pension plan through the POB;
- Employee benefits, such as a laptop and a phone;
- There is a place for everyone in our organization. We offer our employees equal opportunities to further develop their talents and strive to create an open, safe, and inclusive work environment. Whatever your story may be, you can be yourself at Bibliotheek West-Brabant.
