Six WWF staff members pose smiling in a tropical rainforest, wearing WWF shirts and work clothes.

Do you want to help make a difference for our climate and the people whose livelihoods are most at risk? Do you love storytelling as well as PR? Do you thrive when working in an ambitious, multinational, and diverse team across four continents? Do you have a collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset? Then we have the perfect position for you!

We are looking for a communications specialist to support our team working for the Dutch Fund for Climate Development (DFCD), a pioneering consortium that invests at scale in bankable climate mitigation and adaptation projects. Bankable projects are financially viable projects that support the development of more resilient landscapes and catalyze private investment in nature.

Role and responsibilities

As a communications specialist, you will lead our efforts to raise our profile and showcase the landscape projects we support, using various formats and targeting different audiences. You will coordinate communications priorities, create opportunities for outreach, and build a network with relevant media outlets, financial institutions, NGOs, research institutions, and others. You will oversee the process, timeline, quality, and budget of communications projects.

More specifically, you:

  • Design and implement a strategy to position WWF DFCD as a successful developer of bankable nature solutions both regionally and internationally, and raise DFCD’s profile (through media interviews, panel discussions at leading events, case studies, reports, podcasts, etc.);
  • Identify and plan key stories for internal and external communication channels (websites, social media, newsletters);
  • Produce and/or coordinate the production of content (newsletters, articles, videos, blogs) to share our story and expertise;
  • Support regional teams by creating brochures and presentations to inform and attract new projects and co-investors;
  • Contribute to the DFCD consortium’s communications strategy and its implementation in coordination with other consortium partners;
  • Coordinate stakeholder communications (including co-authoring the annual plan and annual report) as well as incident management;
  • Develop an events strategy and coordinate a select number of events, including organizing webinars and promoting events online.

Who are you?

You are an experienced, strategic, and creative communications professional with international experience, a passion for our mission, and a willingness to celebrate even our smallest successes. We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a self-starter, proactive, and hands-on
  • A team player who loves working in a diverse and international team

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant educational background in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field;
  • At least 7 years of (international) work experience in communications;
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role in the financial sector and/or international development
  • Proficiency in English and Dutch (both spoken and written); knowledge of other languages (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution and project management;
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to identify and write compelling stories;
  • A good understanding of international sustainable development and climate policies and practices;
  • Strong social media skills;
  • Understanding of relevant regional and international media; a media network is a plus;
  • Flexibility, creativity, and dedication.

About the DFCD Program

WWF Netherlands is one of the four consortium partners of the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development, which consists of two investors (FMO and Climate Fund Managers) and two NGOs (WWF-NL and SNV).

WWF’s role—together with SNV—is to identify bankable climate projects and help them become investment-ready. Since the fund’s launch in 2019, we have supported 27 projects. We are now entering the phase of handing these projects over to the DFCD’s investment managers, FMO and CFM, while at the same time preparing to scale up our efforts to identify and support even more projects.

The WWF DFCD team is part of the Green Finance Unit at WWF-NL, which aims to promote sustainable investment among institutional investors by sharing knowledge, developing risk management tools, and creating model projects for bankable nature solutions. If you join us, you can help us raise our profile as experts in developing bankable nature solutions.

Core Values

You identify with the core values of WWF-NL:

  • Courage
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Collaboration
