Working to improve accessibility and revitalize the economy. That is the mission of the 21 municipalities that have joined forces in the Rotterdam-The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH). With your expertise in communications, you will help showcase the results of this regional collaboration.
In this role, the focus is on online media. You will keep the MRDH website and content calendar up to date. You will create content for our website and social media channels and monitor these channels on a regular basis. For our biweekly online newsletter, you’ll actively seek out news stories, write engaging articles, handle the layout, and send out the newsletter via email. You’ll also support the communications advisors in implementing communication plans, including by coordinating with external parties such as designers, photographers, and videographers, and by assisting with events.
You enjoy working in a close-knit team, are curious, flexible, proactive, and used to working with deadlines. You have experience creating content for websites and social media channels and know how to monitor these channels. Naturally, you have an excellent command of the Dutch language and an eye for design and photography. In addition, you have an understanding of the regional context in which the MRDH operates.
You will be working in the Strategy and Administration Office. The staff of this office coordinate, advise, and carry out tasks in the areas of public affairs and lobbying, communications, and administrative matters. They work closely with colleagues from the MRDH policy departments, the 21 municipalities, and other partners. We operate based on the core values of Courage, Openness, and Enjoyment. This means we dare to think outside the box, take initiative, and showcase our work. We are also open to other perspectives and draw energy from achieving successes that we celebrate together.
The Rotterdam-The Hague Metropolitan Region is a voluntary joint arrangement among 21 municipalities. We are working to improve accessibility and revitalize the economy. In this way, we contribute to greater prosperity and well-being for the nearly 2.4 million residents of the Rotterdam-The Hague Metropolitan Region.
As an extension of local government, we have been granted the status of a transport region by the national government. This means we have statutory responsibilities in the area of traffic and transportation. For example, we formulate regional traffic and transportation policy. And as the contracting authority for regional and urban public transportation in the Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan region, we grant concessions to transportation companies. We also provide subsidies for various traffic and transportation projects and for the management, maintenance, and replacement of public transportation infrastructure. For this purpose, we receive approximately €600 million annually directly from the national government.
In addition, it is our responsibility to improve the business climate in areas such as work locations (industrial parks, retail, offices), economic innovation (field labs, startups), and the alignment between education and the labor market. To this end, we receive a contribution—€6.8 million in 2023—from the 21 municipalities.
