Communications Advisor for Secondary School Administrators

Quality education for every student! School leaders are passionately committed to this goal every day. They play an important and rewarding role, but the profession also presents many challenges. Schoolleiders VO is dedicated to strengthening the school leadership profession. We facilitate meetings among school leaders, we ensure their voices are heard in policy-making, we promote the professional development of school leaders, and we foster dialogue about the role of school leaders within the school organization. What will you be doing? 

• You will work closely with the senior communications advisor to further develop the overarching communications strategy and the vision for the role of communications within Schoolleiders VO. 
• You will ensure that the brand identity of Schoolleiders VO is supported and strengthened through words and images.  
• You take the lead when copy is being written and materials are being designed. You handle much of this yourself. As such, you have ample experience with the graphic design tools required for these tasks. When necessary, you outsource work and maintain contact with external parties (printers, photographers, etc.). 
• You are familiar with current trends in the sector and can identify which developments are relevant to secondary school administrators in terms of communication. 
• You will support the project team responsible for three subject-specific tracks in communicating their offerings within the Secondary School Leaders program. You will collaborate with them and advise them on communication tools and channels. You will develop communication strategies and implement them.  
• You will be responsible for the day-to-day management (non-technical) and ongoing development of Schoolleiders VO’s three main communication channels: the website, the newsletter, and the LinkedIn page. You will also play a key role in populating the new website currently under development.
• You will work closely with the Digital Department on the development of our digital product offerings. 
• You maintain contact with other communications staff members within the VO-raad so that you can identify opportunities for collaboration. 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a communications specialist with at least 5 years of experience who, working closely with our senior communications specialist, will help put our new organization on the map! You excel at consistently implementing our brand identity and are comfortable drafting press releases, designing new flyers, or running social media campaigns.

Where will you be working?

Schoolleiders VO was established to promote the professional development of secondary school leaders (both individually and collectively) and to provide them with a space where they can easily connect with fellow school leaders, exchange information, and learn from one another. We are a new organization that places a high priority on collaboration, mutual learning, and knowledge sharing, and aims to be a powerful collective for school leaders. In terms of content, the organization’s objectives are outlined in three themes:

1. The Voice of School Leaders(on Sector Development and Advocacy)
2. School Leaders in Professional Development(on Professional Quality and Professionalization)
3. School Leaders in Their Roles(Regarding Roles and Terms of Employment)

What do we offer you? 

We offer you a challenging position in which you will contribute to the development of secondary education. You will work three days a week. Since Schoolleiders VO is formally part of the VO-raad, you will be employed by the VO-raad. Initially, you will be offered a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal.

The position of Communications Advisor is classified in pay grade 9 (CAO VO). It comes with excellent benefits, such as 426 vacation hours per year for full-time employment (including generally recognized holidays), an end-of-year bonus of 8.33%, an excellent pension plan with the ABP, and an annual professional development budget of €1,500 to support your growth and development. You have the option to work in a hybrid model. The position starts on September 1.
