The Pigs in Distress Foundation is looking for an experienced campaigner with original and creative ideas that inspire people to take action. Someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves to tackle animal suffering.
Pigs in Distress is fighting for a world in which all pigs can live a life that meets their needs and allows them to express their natural behaviors. To achieve this, we campaign in various ways: we expose abuses in the media, file lawsuits, and lobby policymakers.
We share our office with the Dier&Recht Foundation, and our combined team consists of thirteen full-time staff members and various freelancers and interns. We have a strong substantive team, consisting of two veterinarians, an animal scientist, a biologist, a lawyer, and a policy researcher. In addition, we have a versatile and creative communications team. Together, we devise campaigns and interventions to bring abuses to the public’s attention as effectively as possible. In doing so, we collaborate with politicians, lawyers, scientists, and journalists.
We work hard for the pigs day in and day out. To run our campaign as effectively as possible, we believe it’s important for our team to include people from diverse backgrounds and with varied experiences.
As a campaigner, you are part of the policy team and also work closely with the communications staff. In project teams, you design and organize campaigns together with your colleagues. You draft reports and other campaign materials. In doing so, you break down complex issues into digestible chunks to inspire specific target groups to take action. With creative ideas, you know how to convey abuses through compelling texts and images. You use various means to put pressure on companies or policymakers. You are in regular contact with external parties such as colleagues from other animal welfare organizations, politicians, lawyers, and scientists. You monitor the national and international debate surrounding our issues and identify opportunities to respond to current events.
Please email a cover letter, your resume, and details of your most successful campaign to puck@varkensinnood.nl by November 1, with the subject line “campaigner application.” If you have any questions, please email or call Puck van der Wiel (020-617 77 57).
We are not interested in sales approaches regarding this job opening.
