The library of the Academy of Architecture collects, manages, and maintains a specialized and unique collection in the fields of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture. The collection supports student education and includes print materials such as books, journals, maps, and digital resources. The library team consists of two staff members, one of whom is you. The library is open five days a week (Mon–Fri). Because the AvB focuses primarily on evening classes, the library is also open in the evenings.
Are you our new library assistant with an innovative perspective on the role of a library within an educational institution? Together with your colleague, you will be the face of the library and contribute to its (digital) development and collection building.
You ensure that library users receive a warm welcome and enjoy a pleasant learning and working environment. You provide information and advice to students and faculty and assist them in searching for information, as well as borrowing and reserving materials.
You will share responsibility for library tasks, such as the formal and content-based cataloging of (digital) information resources. You will be responsible for the educational archives and play a key role in the ongoing implementation of the new KOHA cataloging system.
You will be part of the library team, which works together to provide services to students and faculty. This includes supervising the library and ensuring that all materials are accessible. Because the Academy of Architecture (AvB) offers evening classes, you will primarily work in the evenings.
The Amsterdam Academy of Architecture is one of the leading design schools in the Netherlands. We offer master’s-level education and research in the three disciplines of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture (MSc). What sets the Academy’s design programs apart is its educational model: the combination of study and work, known as the concurrent model. Additionally, the (partially) interdisciplinary curriculum is one of the pillars of our educational vision. The academy forms an inspiring, international community of 350 students, approximately 35 permanent staff members, and around 350 guest lecturers annually, drawn from the (international) professional field. The academy is part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) and is housed in a nationally designated historic building complex on Waterlooplein in the heart of Amsterdam.
We are initially offering a one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent position.
