Everyone has the right to healthcare. Yet even in the Netherlands, access to healthcare is not a given for everyone. Doctors of the World is dedicated to helping people who have nowhere else to turn for medical care. Doctors of the World is part of the international medical network Médecins du Monde. Our organization relies on dedicated volunteers, professionals, and members. In the Netherlands, we have a team of approximately 50 paid staff members and 300 volunteers.
Doctors of the World is a movement dedicated to making healthcare accessible to everyone. You are part of this movement if you sign petitions, like posts on social media, or serve as a volunteer or donor. People who wish to be involved in the movement’s direction and policies can become members of the association. Doctors of the World is an association with a remote board of directors. The executive board and the management team are responsible for the day-to-day management of the (working) organization. The executive board is appointed by the board of directors.
What will you be doing?
As Executive and Board Secretary, you are responsible for the substantive and timely preparation of, and concise reporting on, management and board meetings. You ensure the streamlining and facilitation of decision-making processes. You provide organizational and substantive support to the executive board, the management team, and the board of directors. You fulfill a role that not only executes tasks but, above all, contributes ideas, weighs options, and helps shape the organization’s development. You serve as the connecting link between the operational organization and the association’s board of directors. As executive and board secretary, you report to the executive board.
It also means that you
- manages the complex schedules of both the executive team and the board members as if it were a game of Tetris—and you always win;
- actively reviews emails, documents, reports, etc., identifies connections, and takes action before anyone asks;
- organizes meetings and (strategic) gatherings down to the last detail and prepares reports on them, with an eye for both people and details;
- You will manage communication with the international network as the primary point of contact and the face of the organization for both internal and external stakeholders of the executive board, serving as the key liaison between the various organizational levels and stakeholders;
- coordinates the flow of information between different organizational units;
- You draft meeting minutes in a thorough and precise manner and monitor the progress and implementation of the action items and decisions from the meetings—and you don’t let yourself be pushed around!
- organizes and coordinates events and movement-wide activities;
- monitors compliance with internal regulations and external laws and regulations and ensures compliance with mandatory association requirements;
- coordinates legal matters and risk management;
- The board assists in the performance of its duties, handles substantive correspondence on behalf of the board, and monitors record-keeping and progress.

You also have a strong and pleasant communication style. In addition, you possess:
- At least a completed vocational or higher vocational education program in legal services, or a comparable management assistant program with a focus on law;
- At least 3 years of work experience in a similar position;
- You enjoy working with and for others toward a common goal;
- You provide clarity and are confident in your abilities, enabling you to offer advice both when asked and on your own initiative;
- You organize your own work in such a way that results are achieved within the set timeframe and with the available resources, and you are able to ensure that others do the same;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English. French is a plus.
- Independence and initiative that align with our goals and work methods are encouraged and highly valued.
What do we offer?
- A position on a growing team within a dynamic and inclusive organization that is deeply rooted in the community. The position is based in Amsterdam. Hybrid work is possible; board meetings, volunteer meetings, and general membership meetings are regularly held in the evenings.
- A one-year temporary employment contract, with the possibility of extension.
- A gross monthly salary ranging from a minimum of €3,431.47 to a maximum of €3,957.36 for full-time employment (40 hours per week). Salary placement is determined based on the (internal) benchmark, as well as on knowledge and years of work experience.
- A non-contributory pension.
- 30 days of vacation per year for full-time employees.
