Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy / Directorate-General for Economy and Digitalization (DGED)
The continuous availability and security of our telecommunications networks and, more broadly, our digital infrastructure. Without them, our digital society cannot function. As a policy officer at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK), you are acutely aware of this every day. Among other things, you analyze and respond to undesirable dependencies on other countries, companies, and technologies, as well as to state-sponsored threats to our infrastructure. You then advise on what steps we need to take. For example, due to international and geopolitical developments, we want to gain a better understanding of where the risks of blackmail, espionage, or sabotage lie. A challenging job where you’ll have every opportunity to develop and specialize.
Every day, something happens in the field of Economic Security within the digital infrastructure, especially now that our society is undergoing a digital transition and geopolitical tensions are rising. This topic is currently a major focus of attention. In our digitalization policy, security—both now and in the future—is an integral part of everything we do. In this unique field, you will be working in the Economic Security and Continuity cluster. Among other things, this team focuses on (the implementation of European) laws, regulations, and policies to promote the physical, economic, and cyber resilience of the digital infrastructure sector and resilience against high-risk dependencies.
Within this team, you will focus on the area of Economic Security. More specifically, your work will focus on countering the following national security risks to the digital infrastructure: (i) sabotage or disruption of our critical infrastructure; (ii) the leakage of sensitive technology and knowledge; and (iii) the emergence of undesirable strategic dependencies within our critical infrastructure that could be used to exert political pressure on the Netherlands. To this end, you will conduct risk analyses, advise senior civil servants and political leaders on measures to be taken, evaluate regulations and draft new ones, maintain contacts with market parties and other ministries, and build support to ensure that people are on board with making the right choices. Furthermore, on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK), you will participate in the interdepartmental policy team focused on protecting the (data) infrastructure in the North Sea.
So you’re dealing with important and sensitive matters. Whatever the task, you’ll work alongside your colleagues in the Economic Security & Continuity cluster to develop the policies needed to ensure a robust and reliable communications infrastructure in the Netherlands that can withstand a variety of threats. Will you help build a Netherlands that can rely on this?
