The position

As a Sports Policy Advisor, you will develop and evaluate the

pricing policy for sports facilities, with a focus on affordability and

cost recovery remains in balance. You will address policy issues related to

the operation and efficient use of scarce sports facilities. It also proposes

your frameworks for sports and fitness events that contribute to a vibrant

city, with a focus on quality of life. In addition, you make tough decisions in the

Prioritize target groups in times of scarcity and interpret new exercise trends

in accordance with relevant Amsterdam policies.


You work throughout the city and coordinate closely with colleagues, sports providers, and

other partners. Within Sports and Physical Activity, you’ll be versatile and keep yourself

dealing with a wide range of substantive issues. In doing so, you will

easily switch between different themes and adapt to what’s happening at the moment

is required.


The role involves a great deal of variety, ranging from strategic planning to

translating policy into practice. You recognize the importance of policy that doesn't

not only looks good on paper, but is also recognized and upheld outside City Hall.

With an eye for the city of today and tomorrow, you contribute to visible and

a future-proof sports and physical activity policy.

Here's what you do on an average day

  • Mapping the use of

    sports facilities, including times, locations, and sports, and consider

    how the rental policy can address this.

  • Supporting colleagues, city districts,

    sports clubs and organizations with questions, issues, or complaints regarding rentals or

    use of facilities, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure quick and

    effective solutions.

  • Serve as a point of contact for colleagues at

    the Sportpunt department, which plays a key role in the implementation of the

    rental.

  • Contributing to the development of the

    rental policies, such as the fee structure, advising the board and the alderman,

    consulting with stakeholders and preparing administrative proposals.

  • Analyzing data on rental income and

    using data to identify patterns and provide recommendations based on them

    to formulate.

You will be based in the new Sports and Physical Activity Department, which has about 65 colleagues

work on both the development and implementation of Amsterdam’s sports policy.

They are working on various aspects, such as the development and operation of

(new) sports facilities, projects, and programs to encourage Amsterdammers to

to get (and keep) people active, to support elite sports, and

events. The department works closely with colleagues from other divisions

of the municipality. Within the Sports and Forestry Department (such as the Indoor Facilities

& Parks, Sports Center, and Swimming Pools) and outside of these (such as the Real Estate departments,

Poverty Reduction, Education, Spatial Planning & Sustainability).

What you bring

For this position as Sports Policy Advisor: Help build a city on the move

you're talking about:

  • A completed university degree, preferably in finance/

    business background.

  • Knowledge of Amsterdam's sports scene is

    not required. If you do have experience in this area, please explain it in your

    cover letter.

  • At least 3 years of work experience as a policy advisor

    involved in administrative processes and/or projects within a government organization.

  • Willingness to work occasionally in the evenings

    for coordination with sports providers. Please indicate in your cover letter whether this is for

    if possible.

You should have the following skills:

  • Analytical skills: Can handle main and side issues

    distinguish, break down a problem into parts, and apply logical

    draw connections between the various aspects.

  • Inventiveness: Generates various, sometimes

    original ideas and solutions.

  • Environmental awareness: Show that it's good

    to be informed about professional, organizational, and social,

    political developments or other environmental factors and knows how to effectively

    apply to one's own role or organization.

  • Results-oriented: Specific goals such as

    use as a starting point for one's own behavior and stick to it until the goal

    has been achieved.

What we offer you

As a Sports Policy Advisor: Help build a city on the move, you’ll join us for at least

32 to a maximum of 36 hours per week, and you can count on the following

terms of employment.

  • A gross monthly salary ranging from €4,465 to €

    $6,343 (Grade 11) based on a 36-hour workweek. The exact salary

    will be tailored to your education, knowledge, and experience.

  • A one-year employment contract,

    followed by the possibility of a permanent contract if you

    do not currently have an employment contract with the company, or have only a temporary one

  • A travel allowance of €0.10 per

    kilometer for travel by car, €0.15 per kilometer for travel by

    bicycle and €0.21 per kilometer for travel by public transportation. This applies up to 45

    kilometers one-way commute and for the number of days you are at

    office works.

  • For days you work from home, you will receive a

    A work-from-home allowance of €3.25 net per workday that you work from home.

  • A monthly contribution to the

    health insurance.

  • Hybrid work: In this role, you can work partly

    working from home and partly in the office. We provide (home) office equipment to help you
