The Artistic Planner is part of the Artistic Affairs department at Dutch National Opera and coordinates the artistic process of an opera production. Approximately nine major and a number of smaller productions per season are divided among the three permanent Artistic Planners. You align the production schedule with the wishes of the artistic team and the various departments involved and provide support regarding casting, rehearsals, communication, and logistics. You work closely with the Head of Artistic Affairs and communicate with artists’ agents; you organize auditions, draft contracts, and handle the associated contract administration for soloists and extras/dancers/actors. In addition, you coordinate the daily rehearsal process by consulting with directors and conductors, preparing and distributing call sheets, scheduling costume fittings and musical coaching sessions, and assisting the artists. Together with colleagues from various departments, you play a leading role in the creation of an opera.

The average workweek is 38 hours, but the number of hours worked varies from week to week and depends heavily on the stage of production.
