Artistic Planner

About the role

The Artistic Planner is part of the Artistic Affairs department at Dutch National Opera and coordinates the artistic process of an opera production. Approximately nine major and a number of smaller productions per season are divided among the three permanent Artistic Planners. You align the production schedule with the wishes of the artistic team and the various departments involved and provide support regarding casting, rehearsals, communication, and logistics. You work closely with the Head of Artistic Affairs and communicate with artists’ agents; you organize auditions, draft contracts, and handle the associated contract administration for soloists and extras/dancers/actors. In addition, you coordinate the daily rehearsal process by consulting with directors and conductors, preparing and distributing call sheets, scheduling costume fittings and musical coaching sessions, and assisting the artists. Together with colleagues from various departments, you play a leading role in the creation of an opera.

Who We're Looking For

Are you up for the challenge of contributing to productions within this artistic and international environment? Are you willing to work long hours when the production requires it, including evenings and weekends during certain periods, and occasionally at off-site locations? After a brief training period, will you be able to work independently, and do you have:

• Experience in a facilitating role: you are able to respond to constantly changing, sometimes conflicting wishes and needs, and are willing to support the artists and the production process;
• knowledge of and insight into the production process in the performing arts (preferably musical theater);
• the ability to maintain a clear overview and continue to act in a focused and friendly manner in a complex environment involving many stakeholders and under time pressure;
• excellent command of both spoken and written Dutch and English, as well as proven communication skills,

What we offer

• a one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position; 
• A salary ranging from €3,832 to €5,169 gross per month, depending on your knowledge and experience. This amount includes an irregular hours allowance but excludes vacation pay. 
• 30 vacation days and 5 compensatory time off days; 
• 8% vacation pay and a good pension plan;

• if applicable: travel expenses 

The average workweek is 38 hours, but the number of hours worked varies from week to week and depends heavily on the stage of production.
