More about this organization
A man wearing glasses and a beige sweater is holding up some papers against a colorful background with floating documents.

Where the history of the Dutch Bibliography, 36 terabytes of archival data, and the WOR converge. That is the KB in The Hague. And it is the place where you, as our administrative secretary, provide organizational support to the KB’s Works Council (OR), enabling it to focus fully on its employee participation role and to represent the interests of all KB colleagues.

Will you make it happen?

Our Works Council regularly consults with our Executive Director on important personnel and organizational matters. During these consultation meetings, the Works Council acts as an equal partner to the KB’s Executive Director and, in its role, contributes to the effective implementation of decisions. Your support is crucial in this regard. In your role, you ensure that all administrative and planning aspects run smoothly.

And there’s more. You are the administrative secretary of the Works Council who:

  • draws up each meeting agenda in collaboration with the Works Council’s executive committee.

  • prepares and publishes the minutes of the Works Council meetings.

  • handles the paperwork for consultation and approval processes.

  • maintains the Works Council mailbox.

  • organizes the Works Council's annual training session.

  • helps organize the Works Council elections every three years.

In addition, the weekly Works Council meetings allow you to stay in close contact with all Works Council members, giving you a deep understanding of what’s happening within the KB. You also serve as the constant point of contact responsible for the annual recurring planning tasks (such as drawing up the meeting schedule and organizing meetings with our portfolio holders, members of the executive team, and the company physician).

Are you the talent we're looking for?

We’re curious to learn more about who you are and what makes you special. Is it your structured approach combined with your attention to detail? That’s great. Especially if, for this position as an administrative secretary to the Works Council, you can also offer:

  • At least a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • several years of experience in a similar role, such as an administrative assistant or executive assistant.

  • Experience with taking minutes, managing schedules, and filing.

  • experience with planning tasks and organizing things like training sessions, events, or team activities.

  • reliability and integrity.

  • political and organizational sensitivity.

  • knowledge of or interest in matters related to the Works Council.

Experience in a works council role is preferred.

What can you count on?

When you choose the KB, you’re also choosing excellent employment benefits. To be specific, your choice includes:

  • a gross monthly salary between €2,881.00 and €3,905.00 (pay grade 7).

  • to begin with a one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position.

  • a good work-life balance. You’ll get 42 days off, and we’d be happy to discuss working from home and flexible hours with you.

  • 100% reimbursement of your public transportation costs.

  • good study facilities.

  • pension accrual throughthe ABP pension fund.

  • a thirteenth month's salary (8.33%).

These terms of employment apply to a full-time position of 40 hours per week. The position of administrative secretary to the Works Council is a part-time position of 12 hours per week.Click here to learn more about our excellent benefits package.

What is it like to work at the KB?

The KB is the national library of the Netherlands. What more people should know is that the KB is innovating. Because that’s exactly what we’re doing! Together with 500 colleagues, we’re committed to making the Netherlands a better place every day smarter, more skilled, and more creative. We achieve this, for example, by collecting, preserving, and sharing all digital publications from and about our country. And by working together toward a society where everyone can participate fully. For example, we support the very youngest with storytime kits, seniors with tablet courses, and those with low literacy skills with language assistance. We tackle social challenges like these together with other network partners.

We embrace the differences among all our colleagues. In fact, we believe that differences make a team stronger. We see this reflected within our Works Council as well. The Works Council consists of nine members from all divisions of the KB. How do these nine future colleagues describe the atmosphere themselves? As positive, ethical, and professional.

Would you like to contribute to our innovation? Great! We can’t wait to receive your resume and cover letter.
