The Rijksmuseum belongs to and is for everyone—including you. Especially if you want to be part of a team that puts service and safety first. Are you the person who can ensure that everything runs smoothly when it comes to secretarial and administrative tasks for this department? Then we’re looking for you!
The Spider in the Web
As a Departmental Assistant, you will be closely involved in a wide range of security matters related to the Rijksmuseum and Museumplein. You will support the heads of two (sub)departments, liaise with many people, and coordinate with external vendors. The time allocation is roughly fifty-fifty, but in practice, the two roles won’t be easy to separate. You’re therefore good at setting priorities and can work independently. No two days are the same! Your main responsibilities are:
- Handling incoming email, mail, and phone calls.
- Organizing, preparing, and taking minutes for various meetings, and following up on action items.
- Proactively identify issues and bring them to the attention of department heads.
- Maintaining and managing various administrative tasks (including expense reports and clothing distribution).
- Supporting projects, monitoring progress, and troubleshooting issues.
Working at the Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum belongs to and is for everyone. In this role, you will be part of our Security Department—a growing team of colleagues who know each other, laugh together, and can rely on one another. Thanks to them, the Rijksmuseum is able to open its doors seven days a week and welcome 2.7 million visitors each year.
What do you bring to the table?
We’re eager to learn more about you and the skills you’ll bring to our team. You’re sharp-minded, easy to work with, and know how to set priorities. You excel at managing complex schedules. The busiest days for meetings are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so you’ll need to be available then. You have secretarial and/or administrative work experience and:
- Excellent proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
- Experience in taking minutes and drafting reports.
- Experience handling confidential information.
What do you get in return?
- A gross monthly salary ranging from €2,774 to €3,348 per month based on a 36-hour workweek (Scale 7 of the museum collective bargaining agreement).
- 8% vacation pay and 3.4% year-end bonus.
- A one-year contract with the possibility of renewal.
- The flexibility to alternate between working from home and working in the office, as agreed, including a budget to set up your home office to your liking.
- Full reimbursement of public transportation costs for trips of 5 km or more (up to a maximum of €345). The costs you incur when you park your bike in a secure bike rack at the station are also fully reimbursed.
- After your probationary period, you will receive a Museum Year Card that grants you unlimited access to 450 museums in the Netherlands. You are always welcome at the Rijksmuseum (during opening hours) with one guest.
- Participation in various events and sports activities, such as the Rijksrun.
