As an advisor on ombudsman and confidential matters, you will work in consultation with the ombudsman, managers, and the board of directors to provide advice on enhancing social safety and combating inappropriate conduct that is inconsistent with Amsterdam UMC’s core values.
What are you going to do?
In this role:
- You will serve as the ombudsman’s right-hand person and assist him or her in carrying out their duties;
- Do you help develop preventive measures to promote social safety within Amsterdam UMC?
- Are you involved in developing workshops and providing information on social safety?
- You will be responsible for conducting surveys, such as job satisfaction surveys and/or problem or conflict analyses;
- You will be responsible for reporting on and communicating the results of the research conducted, which you will translate into actionable recommendations for management to aid in the development of policy proposals and memoranda regarding social safety;
- You will be jointly responsible for overseeing HR policy in the area of social safety, which involves maintaining contacts and participating in meetings both within and outside the organization;
- In consultation with the ombudsman, you will make recommendations regarding the content of policy proposals and recommendations, as well as the implementation of policy through various instruments. You will also provide guidance to management and staff and explain management information;
- You focus on resolving issues wherever possible, relying on the organization’s ability to self-correct, and—when necessary—facilitating a resolution between the parties through referral, mediation, or advice.
What should you bring?
- At least a college or university level of thinking and working, preferably with experience as a mediator;
- knowledge of the field of social safety, the social map, and external legal options;
- knowledge of tactical and strategic policy and social developments;
- knowledge of laws and regulations regarding occupational health and safety, social security, and labor law;
- skilled in conflict resolution and mediation skills and techniques;
- an overview of the responsibilities and organizational relationships within Amsterdam UMC;
- knowledge of and understanding of people from diverse cultural backgrounds;
- experience in conducting conversations and using interview techniques, as well as knowledge of providing information;
- research skills;
- demonstrable consulting skills.
As the ombudsman’s right-hand person, it is important that you have a strong personality, with persuasive skills and strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities. As part of a cross-functional body, you demonstrate an independent mindset, are able to consider the organization’s interests, and can handle conflicting interests with a good dose of organizational sensitivity. You are honest, empathetic, and respectful, and you handle confidentiality well. You are able to reflect effectively on your own performance and behavior. Part of your role involves drafting and writing reports, so it is important that you know how to interpret research findings correctly and translate them into concrete, actionable policies.
Where and with whom do you work?
The Ombudsman and Confidential Affairs team helps to enhance social safety at Amsterdam UMC. It serves as the reporting, investigation, and advisory body for social safety for employees and managers, under the leadership of the Ombudsman. Employees and managers at Amsterdam UMC can contact Ombuds and Confidential Affairs with questions and reports regarding social safety, integrity, and inappropriate behavior.
You will be working as part of a small team. In addition to you and a fellow ombudsman and confidential advisor, the team consists of the ombudsman, a staff member, a social safety project leader, and the confidential advisors for inappropriate behavior and integrity.
What we offer you
- A contract for 28 hours per week.
- Salary range: Grade 11 (€4,678 – €6,402 gross for full-time employment).
- In addition to a competitive base salary, you’ll receive an 8.3% year-end bonus and an 8% vacation allowance, among other benefits.Calculate your net salary here(subject to change).
- Pension accrual through the ABP, for which we pay 70% of the contribution.
- For one-way trips of 7 km or more, 100% public transportation reimbursement; for personal transportation, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km one way.
