For our internal operations, we are seeking an accounting specialist who will focus on the execution and management of the key financial processes and reporting within Berenschot and who, in the long term, is interested in assuming a leadership and managerial role in this area.

What will you be doing?

As an accounting specialist, you’ll be a—very welcome—member of the Finance department and will help ensure that our financial reporting accurately, timely, and fully reflects our business policies. You’ll add value by understanding the story behind the numbers, communicating it effectively, and taking an active role in keeping everything under control.

The main duties and responsibilities associated with this position are:

  • You will share responsibility for—and eventually take full responsibility for—the monthly closing, balance sheet, and income statement;
  • You will ensure the timely, accurate, and complete processing of financial records, including project accounting, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable, general ledger, and VAT returns.
  • You will ensure compliance with internal and external financial regulations and procedures, and identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • You will prepare periodic financial reports and analyses for management, and assist with the annual financial statements and the budget.
  • You will contribute to the optimization and further automation of financial systems and processes.
  • You will serve as a backup for your immediate colleagues when it comes to administrative processing in the various ledgers (purchasing / sales / journal / bank);

A financial role involves many different areas. In addition to working closely with your immediate colleagues in the department, you will interact with many different departments within the organization, as well as the auditor and the tax authorities.

What are you bringing?

As the ideal candidate for the position:

  • Do you have at least an associate's degree in finance or business administration?
  • Do you have at least 3 years of work experience?
  • Do you have an excellent command of the Dutch language;
  • Do you have experience with accounting software, preferably AFAS, and are you familiar with MS Excel?
  • Do you have experience working in a consulting and/or project management firm;
  • Are you proactive, detail-oriented, results-driven, and able to prioritize effectively?
  • Can you work effectively both independently and as part of a team?
  • Do you aspire to a leadership role in the future?
  • Do you have a healthy dose of energy, a sense of humor, flexibility, and a desire to learn?
