Through a Professional Competence Service Point that is yet to be established, you will play a central role within BOCAS and the Professional Competence department, maintaining an overview, establishing connections, and ensuring effective coordination in the area of planning and administrative support for professional competence activities.

What will you be doing?

Under the supervision of the Professional Development Team Leader / BOCAS, you will:

  • Ensure effective planning, coordination, and support for education, training, and exercise (ETX) activities, in conjunction with the logistical implementation.
  • Contribute to improvement and change processes within the Professional Competence Department, including BOCAS, such as the further development of BOCAS or the establishment of a Professional Competence Service Desk.
  • Serve as the link between BOCAS, the Facilities Department, and other departments regarding resources, maintenance, and support.
  • Handle quotations, invoicing, and financial processing, and be accountable for these tasks;
  • Fulfilling roles in the field of safety, including Emergency Response Team Leader/Shift Supervisor and Safety Officer.
  • Participate in and/or lead (sub)projects and working groups.
  • Prepare management information and reports.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings.

Who are you?

Are you a connector who brings colleagues, fire stations, and departments together to tackle issues related to planning professional development activities and facility support? Do you thrive on bringing structure to a situation, creating clarity, and achieving results? Then we’re looking for you!

You are an enthusiastic and solution-oriented professional who works effectively both independently and as part of a team. You possess strong communication skills and maintain a customer-focused approach toward internal stakeholders. You are strong at planning, maintain a clear overview, and know how to act decisively when necessary. You are flexible and switch effortlessly between operational issues and long-term developments. You have technical insight and, preferably, knowledge of the organization, working methods, and the equipment and materials of the fire department. Experience with planning, coordinating, and aligning efforts in a complex environment is a plus.

You'll recognize yourself in this

  • HBO+ level of work and thinking.

You will be working from two locations. Both have ample free parking.

The department

Our Professional Competence Department consists of approximately 50 professionals and ensures that our firefighting personnel maintain a high level of professional competence in terms of knowledge and skills. We play a leading role in the development of professional competence, from firefighters to the duty commander. The department consists of three teams: Learning and Development, Maintaining Professional Competence, and Achieving Professional Competence (including the Amsterdam-Amstelland Schiphol Fire Service Training Center).

BOCAS is the training and practice center of the Amsterdam-Amstelland Fire Department, with locations in Badhoevedorp and Uithoorn. Here, national and region-specific training courses up to the level of fire chief are provided, as well as refresher courses and drills for professional and volunteer firefighters. In addition, the locations are used by external parties such as other emergency services and other fire departments, and an external organization (FMTC) provides safety training in the fields of offshore and shipping.

The Vakbekwaam Worden/BOCAS team consists of approximately 20 dedicated and enthusiastic full-time staff members (instructors, planners, administrators, and consultants) and approximately 70 freelancers, each with their own expertise and background.

A Professional Competence Service Center is being established to support the Professional Competence Department. This service center will coordinate the planning and provide administrative support for education, training, and practice activities (ETP) with all stakeholders. This initiative aims to improve coherence and provide a clearer overview within the professional competence program. In this role, you will make a significant contribution to the establishment and development of this service point, which will consist of approximately 8 employees whose work will fall entirely or partially under its purview.
