The unimaginable richness and diversity of seven centuries of visual art and design—that is what Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen collects, researches, documents, conserves, and restores. The museum contributes knowledge and new insights and curates forward-thinking programs based on its own collection. The museum connects people, sparks the imagination, provides inspiration, and fosters creativity.
By nurturing, supporting, and celebrating artists’ freedom of expression—while respecting old, new, and controversial ideas—the museum aims to offer everyone a thought-provoking perspective on the world.
To convey the immense richness and diversity of the collection—as well as the various locations and activities—in a compelling narrative to our diverse audiences and stakeholders, we are looking for an energetic, inspiring, and steadfast
Boijmans in Transit is the program designed to bridge the gap during the museum’s renovation and consists of three phases.
Now that the museum building is closed for extensive renovation and refurbishment, Boymans in Transit is in full swing: the storage facility and the Boijmans location in Rotterdam-Zuid are open and operational, and the collection is on view at museums throughout the Netherlands and abroad.
The first phase ran until the opening of the depot in the fall of 2021. Boijmans remained visible and in contact with the public through collaborations with fellow museums and other partners via Boijmans bij de Buren and Boijmans in de Stad.
The second phase began with the opening of the storage facility. Here, the museum once again has its own spaces for programming, and Boijmans Hillevliet has also gained more stability in this phase with additional rooms where programs can be organized.
The third phase will begin when the museum reopens to the public with extensive collection presentations and crowd-drawing exhibitions, currently planned for 2029. By then, Boijmans Hillevliet will have come into its own, or perhaps something new will have emerged in Rotterdam South. By that time, the depot will have become an integral part of the city’s collective consciousness.
