Are you the financial and strategic driving force behind the cultural cluster comprising the TextielMuseum | TextielLab, the Tilburg Regional Archives, and the Tilburg City Museum?
An experienced controller, accountant, or financial manager who thrives in an inspiring, dynamic work environment where routine financial services and complex challenges go hand in hand. An organization focused on growth that is building a healthy funding mix of public funds and self-generated revenue by capitalizing on commercial opportunities.
You’re not only an advisor to the executive board and the supervisory board, but also the person who dives into the numbers, conducts analyses, and drives the financial organization forward. This role requires a financial professional who can effortlessly switch between boardroom-level discussions and the details of financial accounting.
We are specifically not looking for a purely policy-oriented financial manager, but rather a highly competent professional who truly understands and oversees financial processes, figures, and risks. Someone who is accustomed to taking responsibility for reliable reporting, grant accountability, investment issues, liaising with auditors and regulatory bodies, and maintaining a robust planning and control environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the foundation’s financial and economic policy. In the coming years, there will be a clear need to further develop and refine management information. You will ensure the provision of clear, reliable, and forward-looking management information that directly supports strategic decision-making regarding growth, investments, renovations, and digitalization.
You ensure a predictable and transparent planning and control cycle, including budgeting, financial statements, and meticulous grant accountability. “Being in control” is tangibly reflected in clear processes, reliable figures, and timely reports to management, the Supervisory Board, and grant providers. In addition to this strategic responsibility, you translate ambitions into a targeted improvement agenda. You set priorities, provide focus, and oversee implementation. You serve as a sparring partner for the heads of the organizational units, particularly the Head of Operations and the Executive Director, and also maintain an independent line of communication with the Supervisory Board.
At the same time, you will be actively involved in day-to-day operations. The Finance team consists of three to four professionals who work independently in their respective areas of expertise (accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, banking). You will ensure cohesion, quality, and consistency. In the coming years, the team will require further development and knowledge retention, partly in light of the upcoming retirement of team members. You will invest in the transfer of knowledge, strengthening, and future-proofing of the team. Strong Excel skills and the ability to conduct analyses and build financial models on your own are essential for this. You switch effortlessly between strategic issues and a deep understanding of the numbers.
The TextielMuseum | TextielLab, the Tilburg Regional Archives, and the Tilburg City Museum together form a unique cultural cluster in Tilburg, with the Mommerskwartier Foundation serving as the umbrella organization for these three leading institutions. Together, they form a powerful cultural ecosystem where heritage, innovation, craftsmanship, and social impact converge. The coming years will be marked by growth, sustainability, and renewal. With the renovation of the Textile Museum, the continued digitization of the archive, and the development of a future Heritage House for the city, significant financial and strategic challenges lie ahead.
What sets this role apart is the combination of financial responsibility and tangible social impact. You will work within a unique cultural cluster where heritage, innovation, and craftsmanship converge, and where your work directly contributes to the cultural development of the city and region. You will play a key role in the renovation and sustainability efforts of the TextielMuseum—a strategic process that requires financial acumen, scenario planning, and administrative sensitivity. At the same time, you contribute to innovation, digitization, and sustainable operations within an organization where various funding streams converge. In this way, you help build a solid financial foundation that not only provides stability but also creates space for artistic development and social relevance.
You have strong analytical skills, communicate clearly, and provide well-defined advice. You navigate administrative contexts with ease and have a keen sense of relationships and interests. You know when to think strategically and when it’s necessary to delve into the details. Reliability, transparency, and integrity are second nature to you.
You have experience building and leading a team and know how to create an open, professional work environment where quality and collaboration are central. In addition, you have proven experience in planning and control, financial process optimization, and developing clear management information. Experience with grant and project financing will help you operate effectively in an environment where public and private funds converge. Experience within the cultural sector is not required. In fact, we specifically encourage financial professionals from accounting, healthcare, education, housing associations, or other publicly funded organizations to apply. What matters most is that you are motivated to contribute to an organization with social significance. You have at least several years of experience in a financial management role, such as Finance Manager or Controller. Finally, you possess a university-level education and way of thinking, for example in Accountancy, Business Economics, or Controlling.
This role is suited to a finance professional who takes ownership and does not shy away from responsibility. Someone who enjoys contributing substantively, who is energized by bringing structure to and improving processes, and who at the same time remains mindful of the broader social context in which the organization operates.
You feel at home in an environment where culture, heritage, and public value come together. You see it as a given to contribute to an open, professional, and inclusive work environment where diverse perspectives are valued and harnessed. We believe that organizations become stronger when diverse backgrounds, experiences, and ways of thinking come together. That is why we expressly invite professionals who identify with this profile and are motivated to contribute to the social mission of the Mommerskwartier Foundation—even if you do not meet all the requirements.
We offer you an inspiring workplace within a unique cultural cluster in Tilburg, where substance, social significance, and innovation come together. You’ll work alongside dedicated and knowledgeable professionals who are passionate about heritage, craftsmanship, and public value. There is room for professional growth and development within an organization that is constantly evolving.
In addition to a challenging role within a unique cultural organization, the Mommerskwartier Foundation offers attractive terms of employment in accordance with the Museum Collective Labor Agreement. These include a very generous leave package of over 200 hours per year, excellent pension benefits, and opportunities for professional development and flexibility.
