Head of Development (m/f/x)

Are you an enterprising networker who enjoys building an organization? Do you have experience working in a development department within a cultural or NGO organization? With ambitious plans for internationalization, collaborations with renowned partners, and its move to the Danshuis,Scapinois embarking on a new phase in its long history. To achieve these goals, we are looking for an experienced and collaborative Head of Development.

About the role

As Head of Development, you will lead a department that has undergone significant growth and is still evolving rapidly. Together with three colleagues, you’ll work to further build relationships with foundations, partners, individual donors, and other stakeholders who support Scapino. Not just to generate revenue, but above all to foster lasting connections between people and Scapino and help them feel engaged with what we stand for.Fundraising is friendraising.

You are the face of the department and move effortlessly between strategy and practice. Together with the Head of Marketing & Communications, you will guide the positioning of the dance company. You serve as a sounding board for management and colleagues, identify opportunities, and help bring ideas to fruition within the organization. You bring people together, maintain an overview, and ensure that plans are not only conceived but also implemented throughout the organization.

As Head of Development, you will be responsible for achieving our financial goals so that we can continue to grow as a dance company in a healthy and sustainable way within a changing environment. You will be joining us at a time when we are continuing to build new connections and shape the future of Scapino.

What will you be doing?

- Strategy:Asa strategic partner to the Executive Board, you are responsible for the strategic policy within the Development department. This includes securing new projects, developing the recruitment strategy for the Danshuis, and managing stakeholder relations across the entire organization.

- Team: AsHead of the department, you will lead a team of three ambitious employees who have started with great enthusiasm to help the organization achieve its goals. Both managing the team and collaborating with other department heads require a coaching, receptive, and collaborative approach. You monitor the department’s progress, keep track of goals, and create space for people to do their jobs well.

- Stakeholder Management: Togetherwith the Head of Marketing & Communications, you are responsible for organization-wide stakeholder management. You oversee strategic policy and position Scapino appropriately to foster meaningful connections.

- Connections:You connect people, companies, and organizations to Scapino anytime, anywhere—whether through Friends, grant applications, or partnerships, at premieres, during technical rehearsals, or at networking events. You are the face of the Development Department and a key partner to the Executive Board.

- Entrepreneurial: Youspot opportunities, create possibilities, and are creative in implementing the recruitment strategy, connecting various stakeholders, and developing short-term and long-term strategies.

Who are we looking for?

You’re someone who enjoys building things and gets energized by bringing people together. You move easily between different conversations and roles: one moment you’re helping shape the organization’s direction, the next you’re sitting down with colleagues to advance plans or chatting with partners at a premiere. You have a keen sense of what an organization needs, spot opportunities, and look forward to working with colleagues to further build on Scapino’s ambitions.

You recognize yourself in the following: 

  • You have a college or university level of education and experience in a managerial role, preferably in a similar position
  • You have a strong understanding of finance, work with precision, and think analytically
  • You are proactive and enjoy working with others to achieve goals
  • You are creative, outgoing, and have strong communication skills in both Dutch and English
  • You have an affinity for theater and dance, and you know how to convey that world convincingly
  • You are available for 32–36 hours per week, both during office hours and in the evenings or on weekends, such as for client events.
