More about this organization
The illuminated Stadsschouwburg Haarlem, with its classical architecture and modern elements, at dusk.

The Stadsschouwburg and the PHIL are Haarlem’s two largest venues. Every year, we organize more than 400 events: from hip-hop to dance, theater, and cabaret at the Stadsschouwburg, and from pop and classical concerts to soul performances, television productions, corporate events, and conferences at the PHIL. With a passionate team, we work to make all of this possible. To coordinate all of this, we are looking for a Senior Duty Manager for 30–36 hours per week.

Who are we?

We are a single organization with two prominent venues in the heart of Haarlem. The Hospitality & Events department ensures that all performances and events run smoothly. The team is led by the head of the department and consists of two senior duty managers, three duty managers, four production and sales managers, sixty hospitality staff members, fifteen volunteers, and five backstage staff. We are a diverse team and strive to create a work environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Duty Manager, you will work closely with your fellow Senior Duty Manager. Together, you are responsible for ensuring and organizing excellent hospitality for visitors and performers, the safety of everyone present, and optimal food and beverage operations. You each have your own area of focus, but you can also take over each other’s duties.

Together, you will lead the operations team. About 50% of the time, you will work as an on-site operations duty manager, particularly during (large-scale) corporate events.

A sample of your responsibilities:

  • You will coordinate and coach the Duty Managers;
  • You will be responsible for recruiting and scheduling (or arranging for the scheduling of) the food service staff (including back-of-house staff) and volunteers;
  • You will be responsible for conducting evaluations and providing training and development for Duty Managers, food and beverage staff, cashiers, and volunteers;
  • You will optimize the execution of (business) events, particularly in the areas of catering, event setup, cleaning, and staffing;
  • You will be responsible for managing and overseeing the entire process related to performances, concerts, and events, from scheduling to execution, evaluation, and reporting;
  • You will manage and monitor procedures related to the flow of goods and cash in the hospitality industry, as well as safety regulations and hospitality guidelines.

What are we looking for?

  • A (relevant) completed associate’s degree and/or a demonstrable level of thinking and working at the associate’s degree level, along with job-related training and/or at least 5 years of relevant work experience as a Duty Manager;
  • You have strong organizational skills and are good at motivating and guiding others;
  • You are a problem-solver and are creative in coming up with solutions;
  • You have the required certifications (such as Occupational Health and Safety and Emergency Response) or are willing to obtain them.

What do we offer?

  • A varied role with plenty of challenges;
  • An enthusiastic and diverse team of welcoming and passionate colleagues;
  • A one-year contract with the possibility of permanent employment;
  • Salary in accordance with pay scale 7 of the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Performing Arts Venues.
  • Free admission to many performances and concerts, including those hosted by our partners at Patronaat and Schuur;
  • A fun get-together every month.
