Minerva Academy, part of Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, is seeking a Head of Visual Arts (0.6–0.8 FTE).
The Visual Arts program is a forward-thinking program with an excellent accreditation (2020). The program is dynamic, flexible, and constantly evolving. This allows art education to have the freedom to anticipate the unpredictability of the future.
As Head of Visual Arts, you are responsible for leading and coordinating the program and a team of 30 staff members who support 200 students representing more than 50 nationalities and cultures. You will collaborate with the teaching team, the curriculum committee, and the professional field to shape and further develop the program’s art education and artistic research. You will implement strategic policies and translate objectives and developments into concrete plans for the team, with a focus on the quality of education and the well-being of the team. You will also prepare the program budget, the multi-year investment budget, and the staffing plan, and manage relevant (project) budgets.
Each department head is responsible for one or more school-wide policy areas and is a member of the management team at Academie Minerva. We are focused on making the organization future-proof, with greater agility and collaboration between teams, and better positioning on broad themes such as flexibility, research, and inclusivity. The management team operates on the principle of shared leadership. This requires flexibility and collaboration from staff, as well as experimentation with new organizational models and working methods. The Head of Visual Arts will focus primarily on further professionalizing the team and collaborating on inclusivity.
You are highly sociable and possess strong leadership skills, as well as a background in the arts. You have solid experience in both process management and social management. You have a coaching style and are able to identify issues, build connections, motivate, encourage, and communicate clearly. You have the ability to understand complex and broad policy areas and to propose and defend ideas, concepts, and policy plans. In addition, you have:
