Are you a strategic leader and a creative thinker? Are you a strong change manager and a natural connector? Are you someone who provides clear direction to a team and invests in team cohesion? Do you have experience with content production for both online channels and in-person events? Do you feel at home in the world of media and have a passion for heritage? For our Stories department, we’re looking for an experienced Manager of Content, Production, and Programs (32–40 hours per week)

What will you be doing?

As Manager of Content, Production & Programs, you’ll be working on the Stories team. This team consists of approximately 35 employees who work together to create content, productions, and programs that resonate with people. We tell these stories across various platforms, in all shapes and sizes—including online productions, videos, exhibitions, heritage projects, and public and educational programming. Within the department, subject matter experts and creative professionals collaborate to create all kinds of content and productions. The foundation for this is our unique media collection. As the content department, Stories is responsible for creating and managing content that not only reinforces the Beeld & Geluid brand story but also enriches the history of the Netherlands as it relates to media use.

You are part of the Cluster Team, which includes five other departments and employs a total of approximately 200 people. Together, you form the operational heart of Beeld & Geluid. You report to the Cluster Manager, who is a member of the Management Team.

As the Stories Manager, you ensure that the department runs smoothly, with the needs of internal clients and day-to-day operations aligned seamlessly. Within our matrix organization, you work closely with the managers who determine the strategy and results for each target audience: you are hierarchically responsible for your team, while they set the substantive direction of their work.

Thanks to your service-oriented mindset, you have a keen sense of what internal clients need and know how to effectively meet those needs. You have a good grasp of what’s going on within the organization and enjoy the challenge of translating ever-changing ideas into concrete productions, events, workshops, or content.

You provide direction and drive change where necessary. You inspire and lead with vision and decisiveness. In doing so, you work closely with a Coordinator, who manages and coaches a large part of the team and oversees internal projects. You’re not only passionate about your work, but above all about the people in your department. You have experience with production, editorial work, and the planning and organization of content that results in a strong production or story.

Our offerings

Your first contract will be for one year. If we’re both satisfied, we’ll be happy to renew it. The gross monthly salary (on a full-time basis) ranges from a minimum of €5,098.27 to a maximum of €7,283.29 (Scale 12 of the Beeld & Geluid Collective Bargaining Agreement).

As much as we enjoy working at Beeld & Geluid, we also place a high value on free time. That’s why you get a generous 25 vacation days and 24 ATV days per year (on a full-time basis). Can’t use them all? Then you can also use your vacation days for other fun things, such as buying an (electric) bike, a laptop, or taking that dream trip. We use a cafeteria model for this.

We have a hybrid work setup: maybe you’d like to drop the kids off at school in the morning, or work out for an hour, before heading to the office? Or perhaps you’d prefer a set day each week to work from home? We trust that you’re best able to decide what works best for you and for us. That’s why we provide an expense allowance for working from home and for commuting, depending on where you’re working!

Who are you?

  • You convey clients' requests to the department in a clear, concrete, decisive, and action-oriented manner.
  • You like to move quickly to achieve your goal, but you know when to hold back when necessary.
  • You are a creative, inspiring, and engaging person with a sense of humor.
  • You know how and where best to tell stories to a diverse audience.
  • You are able to implement changes and remain steadfast in staying the course.
  • You have a bird's-eye view of what's happening in various fields, such as content and event production, media, AI, and heritage, and you can provide guidance to your team in these areas.
  • You have 5–7 years of management experience, preferably within a large content-producing department or organization.
  • You have a university-level work and thinking ability and are fluent in Dutch.

Who are we?

We are, first and foremost, a modern media institute with one of the largest and most advanced archives in the world. We preserve various types of media, such as radio and television programs, video games, print media, political posters, podcasts, websites, and physical objects. We preserve our ever-growing media collection as cultural heritage for posterity—that is what we stand for as a trusted institution.

We’re so much more than that! We’re also a surprising, inspiring, creative, and accessible gathering place for everyone. From individual visitors to professional media creators, everyone is welcome—and connecting with others is in our DNA. We organize countless public events, debates, and lectures for people of all ages. We offer schools a wide range of workshops and encourage academic and journalistic research.

With some 500 passionate colleagues—including, of course, our invaluable volunteers and interns—we contribute every day, from our colorful building in Hilversum, to an open, free, inclusive, and media-literate society.

Diversity & Inclusion

At Beeld & Geluid, we place a high value on diversity and inclusion, including in the composition of our teams. No matter what your background is, what you believe in, or who you’re attracted to, we believe it’s important that you contribute enthusiastically to our shared ambitions and goals.

Interested?

We’d love to hear just how enthusiastic you are! Apply by June 26 using the application button, and be sure to include your resume (in PDF format). We’d love to see a (short) cover letter, if you’d like to include one. We’re open to being surprised by the format! If you’d like to learn more about this opening first, please contact Helen Meijer, Cluster Manager, at hmeijer@beeldengeluid.nl or 06-53598527.

This job opening is being posted internally and externally at the same time. We will select the most suitable candidate; if candidates are equally qualified, the internal candidate will be given priority.

The application process consists of an initial interview with Kristen Potters, Corporate Recruiter. If both of you are interested, there will be a second interview with Helen Meijer and one or more colleagues from the team.

What a great job, right? We expect to be able to fill this position ourselves. We think cold calling is a waste of both your time and ours.
