Become a Duty Manager for a unique project at De Nieuwe Kerk!

In 2025, the roof of De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam will open to the public for a limited time during the restoration of the bell tower. For seven months, the public will have a unique opportunity to climb the church’s roof for an unforgettable view of Dam Square and our capital city. Visitors will climb 40 meters along a spectacular route to an exclusive platform offering breathtaking views of the city. If so, this position might be just right for you: the Public Affairs Department at De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam is currently seeking a Duty Manager (temporary) to work 34 hours per week on a rotating schedule from March 1 through November 2, 2025. This amounts to four days a week, including one weekend day.

What you will be doing

As Duty Manager for the temporary Vieringtoren project at De Nieuwe Kerk, you and your colleagues will be responsible for ensuring a smooth and safe flow of visitors during this event. To ensure that visitors have an unforgettable experience, your responsibilities will include:

  • You will patrol the roof and the entrance control area downstairs, guiding the flow of visitors and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Together with your colleagues, you will supervise the front-of-house staff and ensure a warm welcome.
  • In the event of an emergency on the roof or around the church, you are the first point of contact for professional emergency services and the municipality. You will coordinate with the duty manager and security guard at the church.
  • You will be the first point of contact for event visitors and serve as the face of De Nieuwe Kerk.
  • You resolve operational issues immediately and step in when needed.
  • You will oversee the daily schedule and ensure that tasks are clearly assigned among the event staff.
  • In consultation with the Head of Public Affairs, you will help develop ideas for improving and updating, where necessary, the protocols and procedures related to public reception and safety.

  • A gross monthly salary between €2,627 and €3,564 for a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), determined based on knowledge and experience.
  • A contract valid from March 1 through November 2, 2025.
  • 24 days of annual leave for a full-time position, calculated on a pro-rata basis for the specified period.

About Us

The De Nieuwe Kerk and H’ART Museum Staff Foundation is a creative and growing organization that produces exhibitions at both the Nieuwe Kerk and H’ART Museum. We currently have a total of 52 colleagues, and the Public Affairs team consists of seven members. Together, the two venues host an average of five exhibitions per year, in collaboration with national and international partners.
