As the duty manager in the visitor services department, you will lead our team of visitor service representatives who work at the information desk, the ticket office, the gift shop, at events, and in the Espresso Bar.

What you will be doing

As a duty manager, you’ll work with the team to ensure visitors receive a warm welcome and have the best possible museum experience. Your main responsibilities include:

  • managing, supervising, motivating, inspiring, and holding the team of visitor guides accountable;
  • in consultation with the public services coordinator, keeping work processes and protocols up to date and ensuring their implementation;
  • (technical) preparation and coordination of receptions and events;
  • Organizing tasks related to the exhibitions, ticket counters, gift shop, and espresso bar, including inventory management and placing orders;
  • serving as the emergency response team leader in the event of an emergency.

The role of duty manager also requires physical exertion when performing these tasks.

Here’s what we’re asking

As our duty manager, you are independent and decisive; you keep a cool head under pressure and know how to organize processes efficiently. With your welcoming and professional demeanor, you are the face of the museum. You communicate clearly, are service-oriented, and actively contribute to a safe, learning-oriented work environment. Digital systems or connecting AV equipment don’t faze you; you’re tech-savvy and switch effortlessly between POS software and scheduling apps. For this position, we’re looking for someone:

  • with at least a vocational education (MBO) level of work or thinking;
  • with experience in the operational management of a team in an operational setting (hospitality or museum); or demonstrable comparable work experience;
  • with flexible scheduling for shifts and regular department meetings; in principle, every day of the week (you work at least two weekend days every four weeks) and sometimes in the evenings;
  • who speaks Dutch and English fluently;
  • who lives in Amsterdam or the surrounding area.

In addition, you hold a first aid certificate, a first aid team leader certificate, and an SVH social hygiene certificate, or you are willing to obtain these in the near future.

What we offer you

For this position, we are offering a contract for 16 to 28 hours per week for a period of one year, with a two-month probationary period. If you prove to be a good fit and the financial resources are available, this will be followed by a permanent position. Your salary will range from €3,057 to €3,985 gross per month, based on a full 38-hour workweek, depending on your relevant experience at the start of employment. This excludes an 8% vacation allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. TheCollective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universitiesapplies.
