At the Melkweg, we celebrate pop and underground culture. Our concerts, club nights, films, and exhibitions spotlight both emerging talent and today’s stars. We’re committed to giving you the space to express your talent and identity. Whether behind the scenes, on stage, or in the audience, you can step safely out of your comfort zone here.
As a manager, you are responsible for the overall day-to-day operations while the building is open to the public. You ensure that the staff on duty provide a high level of service.
During the evenings and nights, you will provide operational leadership to the staff on the floor. You will ensure a transparent, pleasant, and inclusive work environment. You are also responsible for providing optimal service to the public during and around the program, from guest reception to food and beverage services. Furthermore, you will inform and communicate with the public, staff, and artists, and ensure clear coordination with the production team, programmers, and stage managers.
On a daily basis, you will monitor the start and end times of programs and determine the closing times for the various venues and bars. In the event of an emergency, you will oversee any evacuation and contact emergency services.
Due to the nature of the position, working irregular hours—such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays—is a regular part of the standard workweek. You will independently carry out approximately 2 to 3 day, evening, and/or night shifts per week. Depending on the schedule, this will amount to an average of 4–8 night shifts per month.
In addition to managing the operational shifts, you will also have a number of responsibilities as the supervisor of the customer service staff. This is because the Operations Management team is also responsible for the preparatory tasks required to ensure that evening and night shifts run smoothly. For example, you will be involved in creating the schedule, organizing training sessions and courses, and evaluating the performance of the shift supervisors. You will also conduct various meetings with employees, such as feedback and absenteeism reviews. In addition, you will actively contribute to strategic improvements within the organization.
You have strong social and communication skills. You are service-oriented, able to handle stress, and flexible. You are solution-oriented and confident in making decisions. You are a team player, understand the various interests within Melkweg, and can translate this into clear decision-making and instructions.

Whoever you are and wherever you come from, bring that with you to where we’re heading together! Would you like to help build this with us? Then we warmly invite you to apply.
As a manager, you will receive a salary in pay scale 6 of the VNPF Collective Bargaining Agreement (€2,635.98 – €3,840.13) based on full-time employment, depending on experience.
In addition to all the employment benefits outlined in the NPF collective bargaining agreement, as a Melkweg employee, you get free admission to all concerts, club nights, and performances!
