The position
As the department manager at Sportpunt, you will be responsible for further professionalizing and embedding our current services. This includes both internal services for all Sport en Bos and municipal colleagues, as well as external services for our sports clubs and the residents of Amsterdam. You will also work on centralizing and implementing various management-wide operational tasks within the department that are currently organized on a departmental basis. These include finance (purchasing and sales); scheduling; communication; contract management; facilities management; and complaint handling, which are currently still handled by different departments.
You will determine the strategy for this and set priorities for the desired changes, including the appropriate allocation of personnel and resources. You will work closely with the Sport en Bos Management Team, the team leader, and the yet-to-be-appointed project manager for the planning office. You will also keep your colleagues in mind and ensure that your department, as well as the other departments within Sport en Bos, are fully engaged in this change.
As part of the ongoing professionalization of our current internal and external services, you will focus on four key areas:
- Optimizing the rental and operation of our sports facilities and equipment.
- Professionalizing customer relationship management, including through clear communication and service delivery, as well as the continued implementation of the CRM system. Further professionalizing customer relationship management requires clear communication about the process, as well as how to involve other departments in the new way of working.
- Further developing knowledge management, including by implementing the new knowledge base and developing efficient working methods.
- Establishing and managing a solid data foundation for the entire executive team.
You will directly supervise nine of these employees and support them in their professional development. In addition, you will work closely with the team manager to mentor the other team as well. In close collaboration with the team manager, you will also mentor the other team. The team consists of a great mix of personalities of different ages and experience levels.
Here's what you do on an average day
- You start the morning with a meeting with the manager of the Educational Facilities Department to discuss how physical education programs in the city can be accommodated in our facilities. In doing so, you’ll need to determine how to fairly distribute the workload while ensuring that other users, such as recreational sports groups, aren’t (unduly) disadvantaged.
- After that, you’ll attend an MT meeting where you’ll work with the other department managers and the director to set the direction for company-wide issues.
- In the afternoon, you will prepare the (periodic) financial reports: you are responsible for the department’s budget and manage the department’s financial performance within the parameters of the budget, revenue, and expenses.
- Next, you’ll have a meeting with one of your team members to support them in their professional development.
- You’ll wrap up the day with a meeting with the Rental and Information Team Leader. Together with her, you’ll form a team to handle HR matters, and you’ll work together to plan the future development of the department and individual teams. You’ll collaborate closely on substantive issues, with you taking the lead at the strategic level.
This is where you get started

The Sportpunt department was established in 2017 within the Sports and Parks Division to streamline communication with sports providers in a single location and to centrally manage sports-related operations (bookings, data, and information) in Amsterdam. In addition, we answer between 500 and 1,000 inquiries each week from Amsterdam residents and Amsterdam sports clubs.
For colleagues, the Sportpunt department serves as the central hub for data and information. This role is being further strengthened by recent developments that assign additional operational tasks to Sportpunt. The department is characterized by a strong sense of teamwork and a drive to work toward a shared goal: creating a city that embraces sports.
We promote sports and physical activity in Amsterdam by providing accessible knowledge and information. Through our customer-focused and reliable services, both offline and online, we support sports providers and athletes, making it easier for them to participate in sports and physical activity and use our sports facilities. We are highly visible, easy to find, and easily accessible.
