Vleeshal is a center for contemporary art, located in Middelburg’s former historic town hall. This unique space is characterized by its distinctive Gothic architecture and has inspired many artists to create unique exhibitions. Under current director Roos Gortzak, artists such as Cally Spooner, Paul Maheke, Sandra Mujinga, and Vivian Suter have developed new works—specifically for the Vleeshal. Vleeshal also regularly ventures beyond the walls of its building and engages in collaborations at the local, national, and international levels. Through its experimental and innovative programming, Vleeshal has built a global reputation. Vleeshal operates in accordance with the Fair Practice Code, the Governance Code for Culture, and the Diversity & Inclusion Code.
