As Legal Team Manager at HVO-Querido, you’ll combine legal expertise with social impact and provide direction to a new, multidisciplinary team. This is a strategic role where law, healthcare, and humanity come together.
Would you like to use your legal expertise to contribute to a nonprofit organization that helps people regain control of their lives? Do you thrive on collaboration, coordination, and providing direction? Do you enjoy diving deep into a variety of legal issues? If so, this is a great opportunity for you.
At HVO-Querido, we have believed since 1904 that everyone deserves a home—both in their living space and in society. Because a home provides people with the foundation they need to build their future and participate in society. And it is essential for recovery. With or without ongoing support from us. That is what we stand for at HVO-Querido, and that is where we belong. We provide care in the form of shelter, support, and daytime activities from various locations in the Amsterdam region. As Legal Affairs Team Manager, you ensure that legal advice is not isolated but is fully integrated into the organization. You connect legal matters with administrative and organizational considerations. In doing so, you look beyond the rules: you weigh interests and support our executives and teams in making various decisions. You bring clarity to complex issues where conflicting interests must be balanced in the best interest of the organization. Additionally, you are the central hub in our organization when it comes to legal matters. In this role, you are a collaborative leader: someone who provides advice, maintains an overview, seeks connections, and involves colleagues in making careful decisions.
You will serve as legal counsel to the Board of Directors and the management team. In this role, you will take a proactive approach and ensure compliance with established governance and compliance standards. You will consult regularly with the board secretary to play an active role in the legal aspects of policy preparation, implementation, and decision-making. You will also serve as the point of contact for legal questions from the Works Council, Central Client Council, Family Council, and the complaints officers. You will focus on the areas of health law, operational management, and governance of healthcare organizations.
The Legal Affairs team (currently being established and developed) consists of a corporate lawyer, two (interim) complaints officers under the client complaints procedure, and two social-legal service providers. It is a new team: the members are currently still working in different departments.
Lawyers
The day-to-day work of the legal professionals involves managing legal issues related to quality of care and professional practice, operational management, procurement, and collaborations with external partners. They maintain an overview of legal issues within the organization, analyze them, and provide advice. They contribute to ensuring sound legal preparation for decision-making and oversee the legal follow-up of those decisions. In addition, they coordinate internal complaints committees such as the Internal Appeals Committee (IBC), the General Employee Complaints Committee (AKC), and the Unwanted Behavior Complaints Committee.
Complaints Officers
HVO-Querido has a complaints procedure for clients. There are two interim complaints officers at HVO-Querido who administer the procedure. The complaints officers serve as a point of contact for clients seeking information and/or advice in the event of dissatisfaction or complaints. The complaints officers ensure that the complaint is handled properly and mediate where necessary. They serve as independent process facilitators and impartial mediators in the handling of complaints. Based on feedback from received complaints and their resolution, they provide recommendations on improving the quality of care. Preparing reports is also part of their duties.
Social and Legal Services (SJD)
SJD’s advisors support our clients’ caregivers in resolving and addressing their clients’ material and legal issues. This support is provided both proactively and reactively. The wide range of topics covered includes government benefits, tenancy law, debt, and other financial matters. In addition, topics such as insurance, nuisance, and practical matters that are not always obvious to support staff are also addressed.
SJD advisors provide guidance on the rights of individual clients and client groups, on the financial resources available to them, and on ways to address and resolve legal issues. Social-legal advisors monitor developments in this field and translate them into policy.
The Legal Affairs team works closely with other teams within HVO-Querido. For example, we assist the Rental & Housing team with tenancy law issues and support the policy advisors on the legal aspects of policy. The team reports to the executive secretary, and the team manager reports to the executive secretary.
A dedicated professional who combines legal expertise with a genuine concern for others. Diligence, precision, integrity, and reliability are your core strengths. As a leader, you are approachable and supportive: you know how to provide direction without losing sight of the importance of collaboration. You maintain a balance between day-to-day operations and structural tasks, while focusing on strategic process development.
You’re good at setting priorities. You’re a reliable partner for the board and management. You have a knack for understanding different interests and how legal advice affects them; you navigate various dynamics with ease. You’re tactful and have a keen sense of organizational dynamics. If this profile and the requirements below sound like you, we’d love to meet you.
HVO-Querido is committed to being an inclusive and equitable organization where all clients and employees can be themselves and feel at home, with the goal of providing better quality care to our clients and offering a safe and inspiring workplace for our employees.
