The joint emergency dispatch center receives all 112 calls and serves as the point of contact for the police, ambulance, and fire departments during incidents. In the event of complex and/or large-scale incidents, it is important that one person maintains an overview of the situation at the dispatch center, has the correct information, and ensures that the emergency services work together effectively. That person is the Emergency Coordinator (CaCo) at the dispatch center!

What will you be doing?

As a CaCo, you are the central hub for information, both when things are relatively calm at the emergency dispatch center and when a crisis strikes. You coordinate with supervisors and dispatchers at the emergency dispatch center, crisis managers from the safety region, and experts from crisis response partners. You ensure that both the emergency dispatch center and crisis managers have a continuously updated picture of the safety situation in the region. If you see a potential disruption developing, You are the one who takes action. Together with the National Emergency Operations Center Cooperation, you also ensure operational continuity in the event of disruptions at the emergency operations center.

As a CaCo, you are the primary point of contact for internal and external colleagues and partners in the control room. You inform and mobilize the appropriate officials and partners so that everyone has the right multidisciplinary information during incidents of all sizes. If the situation escalates into an actual crisis, you are the one who takes initial charge of the multidisciplinary crisis response. This ensures that the safety region’s crisis response team gets off to a flying start.

What are the responsibilities of this position?

  • You will coordinate control room operations during large-scale incidents and, if necessary, initiate the alerting and scaling up of the multidisciplinary crisis response team.
  • You will coordinate and facilitate communication between the fire department, police, ambulance services, and the National Emergency Operations Center.
  • You assess and analyze high-risk situations or (imminent) incidents, anticipate possible scenarios, and advise managers in the crisis response team on the next steps.
  • You will serve as the point of contact for dispatchers, supervisors, and crisis managers both in day-to-day operations and during crisis situations.
  • You will support and advise managers in the control room, evaluate incidents, and identify operational bottlenecks.
  • You are the first point of contact for ensuring operational continuity and provide guidance in the event of disruptions at the control center.
  • You oversee the current multidisciplinary security situation and monitor potential disruptions, based on coordination with partners such as emergency services, municipalities, the KNMI, or the water board.
  • You will work on improvements within your role, crisis management for the safety region, or the emergency dispatch center through your own portfolio.

Who are you?

You are, or will become, a safety professional who takes responsibility for safety in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region. You work well with others in a dynamic environment, build relationships easily, and adapt quickly, especially in crisis situations. You take the lead when the situation calls for it, but you’re also able to support those around you when needed. You serve as the link between different disciplines and partners.

You must be flexible, proactive, and able to handle stress, and you thrive on managing crises. You understand that you are a key representative of the safety region, the emergency operations center, and the crisis management organization, and you know how to build rapport with people. You feel a sense of responsibility to ensure, together with your fellow CaCos, that the role is always carried out in a professional and customer-focused manner.

Since the work involves round-the-clock shifts, you must also be willing to be on duty early in the morning, in the evening, and at night to ensure safety and support your colleagues. This makes the work irregular, but all the more challenging.

Do you already have experience working in an emergency dispatch center or an emergency response organization, or an interest in information-driven safety? That’s a plus, but the most important thing is that you see yourself in the description above and are eager to be the go-to person for the emergency dispatch center and crisis response team!

You'll recognize yourself in this
