As a business manager, you’ll be part of a dynamic team. Together, we ensure that the theater’s vision is translated from the current situation to reach the most diverse audience, artists, and users possible. Diemen’s cultural hub is housed in a remarkable building designed by architect Sjoerd Soeters. We offer an extensive program featuring theater, cabaret, youth performances, film, and music. With a close-knit team of ten full-time staff members and sixty volunteers, we work hard to further develop our vision and image, which are focused on stimulating local cultural life even more.
Diemen’s cultural hub is housed in a striking building designed by architect Sjoerd Soeters. We offer an extensive program featuring theater, cabaret, youth performances, film, and music. Our stage is the cultural heart of the community. Not only do we present a wide range of professional theater and film performances, but we also provide a home for many amateur artists. In addition, we rent out venues, maintain our attractive café, Grand Café Blauw, and ensure that the building remains in good condition.
The core of Theater de Omval’s activities is the programming of theater performances and film screenings. In addition, many visitors come to our building for activities organized in the auditoriums by tenants. Clubs and cultural institutions, such as the Diemen Music School and the Diemer Harmonie, are regular guests at De Omval.
With a close-knit team of ten full-time staff members and sixty volunteers, we are working hard to further develop our vision and image, which are focused on further stimulating local cultural life. This is truly necessary because a major renovation is currently underway: the Amsterdam Public Library, Diemen branch, will move into the building in the third quarter of 2022, and a second theater/cinema with 66 seats will then be put into use. Because the stage in the foyer will be used more frequently starting next season, the theater will have three stages by 2022. In addition, our current executive director is retiring in November.
As the business manager, you’ll be part of a dynamic team. Together, we’ll ensure that the theater’s vision is translated from its current situation to reach the most diverse audience, artists, and users possible. The team knows how to attract new audiences to the theater and surprise the existing audience. Within the team, under the leadership of the general director (currently still only the artistic director), you are responsible for human resources, organizing the administration and secretariat, ensuring a well-functioning back office, and managing the building. In addition, you are responsible for preparing the organization’s financial policy.
Our organization is currently going through a challenging phase. In addition to our regular theater and film programming, we also want to start organizing more activities outside our venues. Experimenting with new forms of culture, such as “theater without a stage,” is part of this. With our artistic vision as our guide, this requires a sound (financial) strategy. Collaborating with colleagues who manage their own (partial) budgets is important.
As a business manager, you will establish a vision for the organization’s direction and clearly define its strategic policy. You will develop annual (financial) plans and monitor budgets. With your enthusiasm, you will be actively involved in partnerships and collaborations. You will serve as the municipality’s point of contact for the building. Together with the technical coordinator, you will be responsible for its management.
We would like to offer you an inspiring and dynamic work environment starting around September 1, 2022, at a theater that is undergoing a major transition. You will have the freedom to contribute new, fresh ideas and will play an active role in the transition to “the new theater.” Theater De Omval strives to be an inclusive organization and endorses the Diversity & Inclusion Code. We aim for our team to reflect society. We take this into account during the selection process. If you wish, you may also apply anonymously.
You can find the annual financial statements and reports at www.theaterdeomval.nl/over-ons. You will also find an update on our artistic policy. Salary is determined in accordance with the employment conditions of Theater De Omval. This position falls under scale 7 or 8 of the Dutch Performing Arts Collective Labor Agreement (CAO Nederlandse Podia), with a full-time monthly salary ranging from a minimum of €2,700 to a maximum of €4,500, depending on age, experience, and competencies. We offer you a one-year contract, followed by a permanent employment contract upon satisfactory performance.
