More about this organization
A group of young people in a heartfelt group hug during a theatrical performance on stage.

Jonge Harten is a nine-day performing arts festival for young audiences. The festival takes place annually in late November in Groningen (both the city and the province). We work closely with cultural, educational, and social institutions. We are looking for a business manager. Are you interested in being part of this ambitious and unique theater festival from a business, financial, and organizational perspective? Then we are looking for you!

Position

Jonge Harten consists of a core team (director, business manager, curator, head of audience engagement, and head of production) that expands into a festival team in the run-up to the festival. As business manager, you report directly to the director, and together you lead the team and develop a multi-year strategy. You are responsible for turning artistic and programmatic plans into reality. You are responsible for fundraising, as well as creating and managing the budget, financial statements, and accounts.

In the spring, we work intensively with a small team on preparations and fundraising, and in the fall, we expand to a festival team, welcoming national and international theater makers and young audiences—a task that requires a hands-on approach.

Work

  • Together with the director, you will lead the (core) team
  • You will take the lead in preparing annual and operating budgets and financial statements.
  • You are responsible for personnel policy, ensuring a safe working environment, and adhering to the Fair Practice Code.
  • You are responsible for the fundraising strategy and its implementation, from application to accountability.
  • Together with the director, you will maintain contact with the board.
  • You will strengthen and maintain Jonge Harten’s various partnerships and network (institutions, foundations, government agencies, and collaborative partners).

This is you:

  • You have a degree and/or relevant work experience as a business manager (or in a similar role).
  • You have experience managing a small team of enthusiastic employees.
  • You are aware that you serve as a role model within the organization.
  • You have an affinity for (working with) young people (ages 12–29), young entrepreneurs, and creators.
  • You have knowledge of the professional performing arts sector, experience with arts and culture policy, and a relevant network in the cultural sector (preferably in the northern Netherlands).
  • You are a connector who turns necessity into reality.
  • You have the insight and ambition to place culture high on the political agenda and to drive innovation in the sector, such as through the Fair Practice Code.
  • Do you have an eye for intersectionality when it comes to staff, partners, programs, and the public?
  • Jonge Harten aims to be an employer where every employee, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, or disability, feels safe. As a leader and role model within the organization, you promote these values and take action when necessary.

Are you self-motivated, a team player, inspiring, proactive, able to handle stress, and up to date on developments and challenges in cultural policy? Do you speak your mind and listen carefully to what’s needed? Can you set clear boundaries and think outside the box? If so, let us know how you’d like to approach this role.

Even if you don’t meet all of the job requirements listed above, we warmly invite you to apply.

We offer:

An inspiring and dynamic workplace at the Kunstwerf, home not only to Jonge Harten but also to Theater De Steeg, Het Houten Huis, NITE/Club Guy & Roni, and De Noorderlingen. Jonge Harten is an ambitious organization where development is a top priority—including yours! Salary is, of course, in accordance with the Theater and Dance collective bargaining agreement. On average, you’ll work 20 hours per week. Jonge Harten offers opportunities for talent development and career advancement.
