Job Description

We are looking for an experienced spokesperson to cover the mining sector and the impacts of gas extraction in Groningen.

You will serve as the spokesperson for the minister and the ministry, advise the minister on media and external communications, and develop media strategies. You will also assist the minister with media appearances. You will identify media opportunities and anticipate current political developments.

You will, of course, work closely with your fellow spokespersons and other colleagues within the Communications Directorate and the policy directorates. Together with them, you will constantly seek creative ways to find the best approach for communicating with the public about the work of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy.

You have an excellent network, both within the ministry and outside it. For example, with other government agencies, civil society organizations, and journalists.

Job Requirements

  • You have at least 5 years of work experience in a similar role and work environment. Experience as a spokesperson for the federal government is a plus.
  • You have an academic level of work and thinking.
  • You are a team player and understand that you need to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve good results.
  • You have knowledge of and insight into administrative, social, and political dynamics.
  • You are proactive and results-oriented, have an open-minded approach to work, and possess excellent social and communication skills.
  • You have a way with words and can translate complex (policy) texts into clear press releases.
  • Maintaining good relationships both within and outside the ministry comes naturally to you.

Other job requirements:

  • You have a broad perspective on communication and look beyond your own responsibilities. Together with the communications advisors, you focus particularly on stakeholder management and understand what is required in the field of communication.
  • You have knowledge of and insight into the evolving media landscape, how the media works, and the behavior of target audiences.
  • You have a broad understanding of society.
  • You have excellent language skills.

Terms of Employment

  • Pay grade: 12, step 13
  • Monthly salary: Min. €4,214 – Max. €6,989 (gross)
  • Employment status: Fixed-term employment contract with the possibility of conversion to a permanent contract
  • Contract duration: 1 year
  • Minimum number of hours per week: 32
  • Maximum number of hours per week: 36

Details

  • The introductory and selection process consists of at least two rounds of interviews and a final discussion regarding terms of employment.

  • Colleagues within the central government who are permanent employees may be seconded or transferred while retaining their current employment status.
  • If you do not (yet) have a permanent position as a civil servant, you will start with a temporary position with the prospect of a permanent one.
