More about this organization
Three employees of Victim Support Netherlands in an office setting, with the logo visible in the background.

A grieving father who finds support from others who’ve been through the same thing. An eyewitness who can get things off his chest. Or a young person who feels confident enough to go back to school tomorrow. Your work makes a difference. Because thanks to your genuine care and practical advice, every day people are able to get their lives back on track after a traumatic event. Make a difference; become a follow-up support volunteer at Victim Support Netherlands.

The first steps toward recovery begin with your genuine attention

This will be your job

A listening ear, without judgment. And emotional support aimed at recovery. As a follow-up support volunteer at Victim Support Netherlands, you’re there for people during vulnerable moments. You help them regain control of their daily lives after a traumatic event. Through a warm conversation at the office or over the phone, you offer personalized support. At the same time, you work together to identify practical needs: from helping fill out forms to navigating the social services system. Your attention makes a difference that goes beyond words.

No two days are the same. Sometimes you help someone understand complicated procedures. Other times, you’re there to bring clarity to a tangle of emotions and questions. You provide structure and clarity without taking over—always with the goal of helping the person regain control.

This is what it's all about

That small sign of relief, a grateful look, a moment of trust—your work is so rewarding. And of course, we at Victim Support Netherlands are here to support you every step of the way. With:

  • A customized training program through the Victim Assistance Academy, in which you’ll be prepared for your role through online, in-person, and on-the-job training.
  • Guidance from experienced colleagues who will support you as you take your first steps and beyond.
  • A close-knit team where you work together and can always rely on the knowledge and experience of others.
  • Access to additional training sessions and workshops to help you continue to grow.

This is you

You have a natural interest in people and find fulfillment in helping others. You are very patient and a good listener. Thanks to your empathy, people feel seen and heard. In addition:

  • Are you a practical person who thinks in terms of solutions?
  • Do you speak and write Dutch well?
  • You’re comfortable working with a computer and pick up new programs quickly.
  • Are you available for at least four hours a week to help others?

This is us

At Victim Support Netherlands, we support people every day who have been affected by a crime, a traffic accident, a disaster, or another traumatic event. We offer emotional support, practical assistance, and legal guidance. Always with a personal and compassionate approach. As an employee, you are part of a professional and people-centered organization. Here, teamwork, meaningful work, and social impact are central. Together, we are building a safer and more just society.

When you start working with us, we’ll ask you to apply for a Certificate of Good Conduct. We’ll handle the application, and you can submit the costs for reimbursement.

This way, you can get started with confidence

1. Learning Path

You’ll start the job well-prepared. Before you begin, you’ll complete a comprehensive training program—both in-person and online—totaling 36 hours. During this program, you’ll learn, among other things, how to communicate with victims. The training is tailored to your experience and knowledge level; no specific prior education is required.

2. Guidance

You’ll receive ongoing guidance from experienced colleagues—your mentors. They’re there to support you. For example, when you call a victim for the first time.

3. Experienced team

You’ll be working in a team of volunteers and paid staff—colleagues you can always count on.

4. Continuing education and training

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills. At our own Victim Support Academy, we offer a variety of training courses and workshops—ranging from communication techniques to victims’ rights—at all levels, from beginner to advanced.
