Victim Support Netherlands is a national organization with 25 locations across the Netherlands. Would you like to join us as a volunteer?

Make a difference

Victim Support Netherlands is looking for volunteers to inform victims and their families about the criminal justice process and assist them in exercising their rights as victims. With your legal knowledge and experience, you can make a real difference in the lives of people who have just gone through a traumatic experience.

Become a Volunteer with the Legal Services Department

Victim Support Netherlands assists victims and their loved ones following a crime, traffic accident, disaster, or other unexpected traumatic event. They can turn to us for emotional support, practical assistance (such as help with filing a claim for compensation), and support during criminal proceedings. Every year, we help hundreds of thousands of victims and their loved ones in person or online. We also assist the people close to the victim with tips and advice. Victim Support Netherlands is a national organization with 25 locations. Together, we help victims move forward today.

This will be your job

After a traumatic event, victims and their families experience a range of emotions and must deal with various agencies. You will inform victims about the criminal proceedings and assist them in exercising their rights as victims and obtaining compensation for material or non-material damages. You will also support the victim and advocate for their interests during the court hearing.

What do you bring to the table?

  • A completed associate's or bachelor's degree in law.
  • Extensive work experience in the legal field.
  • You are a good listener and are not afraid to stand up for the victim's interests.
  • Your empathy makes people feel seen and heard.
  • You have a good command of the Dutch language.
  • You have digital skills; you know how to use a computer and are willing to learn how to use a new program.

How much of your time will this take?

To ensure we can provide the best possible support, we prefer that you be available for at least 16 hours per week. During your first few weeks, you will complete a training program of 8 to 12 hours per week at the Victim Support Academy.

This is what it's all about

You do meaningful work: you make a difference in someone’s life during a vulnerable and difficult time. Of course, we’ll help you do this work well:

  • The Victim Assistance Academy has designed a training program especially for you as a new employee. You’ll complete this program online, in a classroom setting, and on the job.
  • You will receive guidance from experienced colleagues.
  • You’ll be part of a close-knit team and can always count on your colleagues.

Good employer

We believe it is important to be a good employer. That is why we provide:

  • High-quality training, continuing education, and information on new insights.
  • Good insurance.
  • Reimbursement of expenses and travel costs.
  • A loaner laptop and phone.
  • The option to work from home or in the office

Do you have any questions?

Please text or call Brenda Prins, Recruiter at Victim Support Netherlands, at 06-24673120, or email vrijwilliger@slachtofferhulp.nl.

Here's what happens after you apply

  • We will always contact you, either by phone or email.
  • We strive for balanced representation in terms of knowledge, experience, age, gender, and background.

If you come to work for us, we will ask you to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG). We will handle the application for the VOG.
