Chair of the Supervisory Board
Would you like to use your leadership skills to contribute to the mission of a leading dance collective that has been bringing together hip-hop, urban sports, and classical performing arts for 25 years? ISH Dance Collective is seeking a Chair of the Supervisory Board, effective January 1, who possesses vision, the ability to build connections, and cultural and social insight.
About ISH
For 25 years, ISH has been bringing hip-hop dance and urban sports to the theater. In our performances, we blend these disciplines with traditional art forms such as ballet, theater, and classical music. In November, founder and artistic director Marco Gerris will receive the prestigious Johannes Vermeer Prize for his groundbreaking work and his ability to reach a large and diverse audience, often comprising new generations of dance enthusiasts.
Dance performances are at the heart of our work. We create both raw ISH productions and collaborations with co-producers such as the Dutch National Ballet, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and the Jakop Ahlbom Company. We also work closely with theaters such as Meervaart, Carré, and DeLaMar. ISH tours nationally and internationally. We invest in a new generation of creators and performers through activities that fall under the pillars of ISH Talent, ISH Community, and ISH Academy.
ISH receives multi-year funding from the Performing Arts Fund, the Cultural Participation Fund, and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. The company is led by an executive director, who, together with the artistic director, forms the management team.
What will you be doing?
As Chair of the Supervisory Board:
- you lead the meetings and foster an open, constructive team dynamic;
- oversee the foundation’s strategy, policies, and general operations;
- You serve as a sounding board for senior management and ensure sound governance;
- represent ISH in relevant networks and at formal and informal events;
- you maintain a balance between engagement and professional detachment.
The Council meets four times a year.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a chairperson who:
- has administrative experience in overseeing and/or managing a social or cultural organization;
- shares ISH’s artistic and social vision and is able to promote it widely;
- has a relevant network within the cultural policy sector in Amsterdam and/or The Hague;
- is able to lead discussions, motivate people, and foster a strong team spirit.
Members of the Supervisory Board are actively engaged, knowledgeable, and critically reflective.
