With an international network spanning 35 countries, a professional staff of approximately 50 employees in Amsterdam, and a federation of 19 independent regional associations, COC Netherlands works toward a world where diversity is celebrated and equality is a given.
The role of the federation board
The federation’s board, consisting of a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and general board members, plays a crucial role in setting the organization’s strategic direction. The board operates at an appropriate distance from the executive management and serves as a sounding board, supervisor, and guardian of the federation’s overall interests.
The Board:
- Appoints and evaluates the executive board;
- Oversees policy implementation and support for the associations;
- Represents the federation in public and political discourse;
- Coordinates strategic plans, annual reports, and budgets with the General Assembly (GA).
What are we looking for in a chairperson?
As chair, you are the public face of COC Netherlands. You are a unifying and charismatic leader with a big heart. You are able to bring together diverse interests within the federation and the LGBTI+ community, and you inspire confidence both internally and externally.
Specific tasks
- Serve as the primary spokesperson to the media, politicians, and civil society organizations;
- Presiding over board meetings and General Meetings;
- Conduct performance and evaluation meetings with management;
- Staying in touch with the chairs of the local chapters and attending various networking and strategy sessions.
What should you bring:
- Experience with administrative responsibilities within an association, a nonprofit organization, or in politics;
- Ability to develop and communicate a clear vision;
- A talent for motivating people and fostering team spirit;
- Excellent communication skills, preferably with experience in media appearances;
- Ability to operate professionally in complex governance contexts;
- A network within civil society organizations, politics, and/or fundraising;
- Understanding the dynamics of volunteer organizations;
- A strong-willed individual with the ability to bring people together, who doesn’t shy away from resistance.
