The Amsterdam Region Discrimination Hotline operates as an independent foundation and regional anti-discrimination body (ADV) to combat and prevent discrimination. The Amsterdam Region Discrimination Hotline thus carries out the statutory duties under the Municipal Anti-Discrimination Services Act for the municipalities of Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Amsterdam, Diemen, Ouder-Amstel, Uithoorn, and the Weesp-Driemond urban area, and receives subsidies from these municipalities for this purpose.
About us
We carry out the above tasks for all municipalities in the region and in collaboration with local and national organizations working in the field of equal treatment and anti-discrimination. We do this by:
The Discrimination Hotline offers an independent and accessible service that anyone in the Amsterdam region who experiences discrimination can turn to. The Discrimination Hotline handles these complaints in accordance with equal treatment laws, mediates, and seeks lasting solutions. The Discrimination Hotline also maintains records to highlight the nature and scope of discrimination and, for example, to provide local governments with information for policy-making. Furthermore, the Discrimination Hotline conducts research, offers advice, provides training, disseminates public information, and collaborates with partners.
Structure and Governance
Our Amsterdam office is staffed by a small team. The director is responsible for day-to-day management. The board oversees operations, advises the director, and consists of at least five members. We adhere to the Social Work Governance Code.
Key responsibilities of the board
The board operates on a collegial basis. In addition to the necessary broad perspective, each board member focuses on one or more of the following areas: public administration and strategy; finance and operations; science and research; legal affairs; human resources; marketing and communication; and knowledge of the ADV field, partners, and clients. As a whole, the board is broadly informed about societal issues, with each member maintaining relevant networks.
Board Member Profiles
Profile of the Chair
Due to expiring terms of office, we are currently seeking an enthusiastic chairperson who commands respect both within and outside the organization and keeps us focused on our strategy and mission. The chairperson works with the director and the secretary to prepare board meetings and has ultimate responsibility for leading and managing the foundation; prior experience in this role is preferred.
Secretary Profile
We expect the secretary to have strong verbal and written communication skills; to ensure the timely submission of (long-term) plans and budgets; to prepare meetings in collaboration with the chair and the director; to be ultimately responsible for the proper archiving of administrative documents; and to have an affinity for well-documented decision-making. Together with the chair, the treasurer, and the director, the secretary ensures the timely follow-up of decisions and action items.
The atmosphere and working style within our organization are open, engaged, and professional, making the most of everyone’s strengths. In selecting board members, we strive to reflect the diversity of the Amsterdam region. Board experience is preferred. We offer the opportunity to make a social impact. At the Meldpunt, you’ll engage in meaningful board work that is deeply rewarding. The unpaid board consists of at least five members. The term of office for a board member is three years and may be extended once. The board meets on average six times a year.
