More about this organization
A group of young people in a theater during an interactive performance; some are sitting on the floor, while others are standing with their arms raised.

Are you:

  • Anyone interested in helping to build support for (young) theater makers and young audiences in the Northern Netherlands?
  • someone with artistic insight and/or a relevant network within the cultural sector
  • excited about overseeing an ambitious foundation that gives young people a voice.

Then Jonge Harten is looking for you!

Who are we?

Jonge Harten is a place to hone your own moral compass, no matter where you come from or where you’re headed. It’s an annual event where imagination and art create space for identity formation. In a society where rituals and traditions are increasingly giving way to commerce and entertainment, there is a great need for community and shared meaning. We make that possible.

We’re putting on the festival with a young team and (young) theater artists. Jonge Harten is an eight-day festival featuring theater, performance, dance, and more in Groningen. It explores topics that matter and leave a lasting impression. Performances that challenge you to step outside your comfort zone. Sometimes uncomfortable, often relatable, but always a reason for conversation. Every year, over 6,000 young people (ages 12–29) attend the festival, nearly half of whom visit during school hours. Education is an essential part of our organization. Every year in late November, Jonge Harten takes place in the city and province of Groningen.

The Supervisory Board oversees the executive director of the Jonge Harten Foundation. Jonge Harten is led by an executive director and a business manager. The festival is organized with long-term support from the City and Province of Groningen and the Performing Arts Fund, supplemented by partnerships and occasional grants. Would you like to learn more about Jonge Harten? Visit our website atwww.jongeharten.nl, or if you have specific questions, please feel free to contact us.

The Supervisory Board meets five times a year in Groningen. Attending (some) meetings online is an option. This is an unpaid position. Last year, the foundation’s board transitioned to a Supervisory Board. In its current composition, supervisory experience, financial insight, and knowledge of good governance are well represented, so we are looking for additional profiles:

  • Chairperson

  • to ensure that the organization complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal procedures in consultation with members of the Supervisory Board and in accordance with the governance code
  • be willing to make his or her network available to benefit the festival.
  • be able to work well as part of a team

For a general member of the supervisory board with abackground in the performing arts, itisimportant to us that

If so, we encourage you to contact us anyway, because we strive for a diverse composition of the board of supervisors that reflects the diversity of our target audience.

Jonge Harten believes it is important for our young audience and our creators to see themselves reflected and represented. An affinity with or work experience related to our target audience is therefore one of the most important criteria. Furthermore, we believe that different perspectives, backgrounds, and insights enhance our creative and conceptual strength. When candidates are equally qualified, preference is given to the candidate who strengthens diversity within the board of trustees.
