Fontaine, publisher of children's and young adult books (32 hours)

Fontaine’s children’s book imprint focuses on both (illustrated) nonfiction and fiction. Well-known titles include the award-winning *Brons* by Linda Dielemans, *Gif in het dierenrijk* by Mátyás Bittenbinder and Barend Last, *The Secret Detectives* by Ella Risbridger, and *The Land of Stories* by Chris Colfer. Because we intend to further expand the children’s book list—in addition to Fontaine’s adult list—in the coming years, we are seeking a passionate and creative editor who will be responsible for the entire children’s and young adult list and will set its direction and tone. You will be responsible for strategy and revenue, and will lead the acquisitions editor. As a publisher, you will work with a motivated team of colleagues and report to the publishing director of Park Uitgevers.

What will you be doing?

  • You will be in charge of Fontaine’s children’s book division, developing its program and overseeing its day-to-day operations. This means you will be responsible for revenue and results, as well as for collaborating with a strong team.
  • You will develop publishing lines and acquire new titles and projects. You have plenty of ideas and work closely with authors, illustrators, and designers. To do this, you will draw on your extensive network in the children’s book industry, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
  • You prepare the budget and are responsible for calculating all expenses.
  • You’re looking for creative ways to launch and promote projects, of course in consultation with the marketing & promotions and sales departments.

What do we expect from you?

  • You have a college-level or higher level of work and thinking
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • You have a proven affinity for the book industry and a passion for children’s and young adult books
  •  You are decisive, persuasive, and have a critical, open mind
  •  You have a knack for business and spotting opportunities in the market
  •  You have a solid understanding of financial matters related to expenses, cost estimates, and profitability, both at the individual title level and at the fund level
  •  You have a wide range of interests and are full of enthusiasm

What do we offer you?

  • A challenging and varied job in a dynamic, inspiring environment
  • The opportunity to build and further develop a wonderful portfolio, with a motivated team
  • Salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for the publishing industry; pay grade depends on experience and education
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including a flexible spending account that allows you to save for additional time off or choose how your vacation pay is distributed
  • A fantastic view of Amsterdam from the15th floor of our office in the Mondriaan Tower—and, of course, all the resources you need to work comfortably from home
  • Great coworkers!
