The Residentie Orkest Den Haag is a leading symphony orchestra that has been bringing symphonic music to life for over 120 years and connecting people through the power of music. From its home base at Amare—the sustainable hub for culture, education, and community—the orchestra bridges tradition and innovation. The Residentie Orkest creates music that moves, connects, and inspires. In addition to concerts at Amare, the Concertgebouw, and the Dutch National Opera, the orchestra is active throughout the city with educational programs, talent development, and community initiatives. Projects such as RO in the Neighborhood and Apple Pie Concerts make music accessible to everyone, while the collaboration with the Royal Conservatory provides opportunities for new talent. The organization has approximately 100 employees, divided between the orchestra and staff. The orchestra receives structural support from the municipality of The Hague and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and works closely with numerous partners within the city and beyond. The pillars of Symphonic – Education – Talent Development – Community Activities together form the heart of the organization.
A new cultural planning period began in 2025. For the Residentie Orkest, this marks a phase of strategic renewal, during which the orchestra aims to further strengthen its social role, artistic ambitions, and financial foundation. The Supervisory Board plays a crucial role in this process: as a strategic partner, as a guardian of quality and integrity, and with a focus on The Hague’s community. The upcoming cultural planning period calls for a sharp strategy, insight into social dynamics, and a strong sense of governance in a public context. In the coming years, the organization will focus on:
