WIJ de Venen is seeking two members for its Board of Trustees: one with a financial background and one with a business administration background. Are you a dedicated trustee with a keen eye for quality, development, and collaboration? And would you like to contribute to education in the heart of the Green Heart? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
WIJ de Venen is a forward-thinking foundation for elementary education, with thirteen schools spread across the municipalities of Kaag en Braassem, Nieuwkoop, and Alphen aan den Rijn. Our village schools operate under the mission “Better Together – For GOOD Education,” where GOOD stands for Growth, Development, Experience, and Sharing. The foundation is in the midst of significant development, with a clear strategic direction for the coming years. We invest in strong leadership, professional networks, integrated child-centered centers, and regional collaboration. The Board of Trustees plays a key role in this as a strategic partner and guardian of quality, continuity, and good governance. Want to learn more about WIJ de Venen? Read ourMission and Vision.
As of March 1, the Supervisory Board of WIJ de Venen consists of five members, who collectively oversee the Executive Board and contribute to the organization’s development. They ensure compliance with laws and regulations and make sure that resources are used in a responsible and effective manner. The board sees itself as a sparring partner for the Executive Board and provides support where necessary. To do this effectively, the members serve on various committees, such as audit, compensation, education, and HR. In 2025, the process of redefining the oversight vision and framework began. This will be further developed in collaboration with the new executive director (starting September 1) and the new members of the Supervisory Board. The core values of the Supervisory Board are: Open, Bold, Informed, Professional, Committed, and Reflective.
We are looking for two new members with expertise outside the field of education to complement and strengthen our team. They will bring valuable experience from other sectors (such as the social sector) and connect insights from fields such as healthcare, social services, or government to the context of primary education. Together, these two members will form the audit committee.
The new supervisors are results-oriented, analytical, and systematic, with an eye for risks and room for growth. They are able to ask the right questions, monitor progress, and contribute to forward-looking supervision. In addition, the members are approachable, critical, and proactive, and work well with fellow supervisors and the board.
At least one member has experience with housing projects and property management and can contribute ideas regarding investments, maintenance, and collaboration with local governments. At least one member has experience as a supervisor. Given the current composition of the board, at least one of the candidates must be male. We view diversity in background, outlook on life, and perspective as an asset. An affinity with the region is preferred.
Commitment and expectations
The Board of Trustees meets an average of five times a year at the administrative office in Alphen aan den Rijn. In addition to these meetings, there are committee meetings, school visits, and thematic meetings. The time commitment averages 12 hours per month.
Compensation
Compensation is determined in accordance with the Supervisory Board’s compensation policy. The compensation is based on the standards set by the VTOI-NVTK. In addition, the Senior Executives’ Remuneration Act is observed. For this role, this amounts to approximately 5,600 euros per year. Opportunities for training and professional development as a supervisor are available.
