Theater Ins Blau is Leiden’s premier flat-floor theater. Each year, the theater presents over a hundred professional performances and provides a venue for local organizations and institutions to showcase their work.

In addition to presenting performing arts productions, the theater’s mission is to support emerging artists, discover new talent, and contribute to their creative development. As a community venue, Theater Ins Blau aims to open its doors to the city and its residents and make an active contribution to the city’s cultural landscape.

Due to the expiration of two members’ terms, the following vacancies will arise in 2023:

  • a member with expertise in the legal field.
  • a member with experience in housing/
Expansion of housing/new construction.

ORGANIZATION

Theater Ins Blau is Leiden’s premier flat-floor theater. Each year, the theater presents over a hundred professional performances and provides a venue for local organizations and institutions to showcase their work.

In addition to presenting performing arts productions, the theater’s mission is to support emerging artists, discover new talent, and contribute to their creative development. As a community venue, Theater Ins Blau aims to open its doors to the city and its residents and make an active contribution to the city’s cultural landscape. 

In the long term, Theater Ins Blau aims to create more space for its target audience. To achieve this, the theater has plans to expand the building and its associated facilities.


JOB OPENING

The Supervisory Board has the following responsibilities:

The responsible fulfillment of duties assigned under the law, the Cultural Governance Code, and other regulations and codes of conduct. The Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing the policies and operations of Theater Ins Blau. In addition, the board serves as the employer of the executive director and assists the director with both solicited and unsolicited advice. Key issues facing the organization in the coming years include the expansion of the building, the working conditions policy, and post-COVID-19 operations. Acts as an ambassador to promote the interests of Theater Ins Blau

Composition of the Supervisory Board

The Board of Trustees consists of five members. The profile for members of the Board of Trustees of Theater Ins Blau specifies that the following areas of experience and expertise must be represented on the Board:

  • legal
  • administrative/political
  • financial and economic (commercial)
  • culture (particularly the performing arts)
  • Organizational/Business Administration
  • communications/marketing

The current members of the board largely cover the fields of administration/politics, finance and economics (commercial), communications/marketing, and culture (particularly the performing arts).

 

The current board has two vacancies:

  • a member with expertise in the legal field.
  • a member with experience in housing, housing expansion, or new construction.

 

In forming the Board of Trustees, we aim for a balanced composition and distribution in terms of gender, age, and cultural background. Given the current composition of the board, we warmly invite candidates from culturally diverse backgrounds and those with a disability to apply.


WE ARE LOOKING FOR

As a member of the Board of Trustees, you must possess the following skills:

  • big-picture view
  • analytical skills;
  • the ability to distinguish between main and secondary issues;
  • serving as a sounding board for the executive director;
  • the ability to maintain networks;
  • an understanding of administrative relationships;
  • understanding of strategic decision-making processes;
  • the responsible fulfillment of the duties assigned to the supervisory board under the law, the Cultural Governance Code, and other regulations and codes of conduct;
  • willingness to agree to the rules of the supervisory board;
  • be able to work effectively as part of a team.


Theater Ins Blau is looking for a candidate with a legal background (law degree) who:

  • has knowledge of cultural governance, understands the risks faced by entrepreneurs and cultural organizations, can analyze these risks and provide advice.
  • has ties to the Leiden region
  • is available to serve as acting chair

 

Theater Ins Blau is looking for a candidate with experience in facilities/facility expansion/new construction who:

  • experience with and knowledge of real estate management, acquisition, and/or development
  • preferably experience with public-private partnerships with municipalities and/or private developers
  • connection has ties to the Leiden region


An interest in and commitment to the performing arts in medium-sized or large theaters would be an asset. It is also important that the new member endorses the existing artistic policy.


WE OFFER

Meeting frequency and compensation

During a normal policy cycle, the Supervisory Board meets between four and five times a year. Additional meetings are scheduled as needed or desired. Whenever possible, these meetings are held by telephone or online. Members of the Supervisory Board do not receive any compensation for their service.
