Esprit Schools is a major player in education in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. The fifteen schools in and around Amsterdam that are part of Esprit Schools offer a diverse range of primary and secondary education programs. In secondary education, students and parents can choose from the following programs: vocational education, VMBO through Gymnasium, bilingual and international education, and education for newcomers. Each school has its own educational profile and culture in various districts of Amsterdam and just beyond. Esprit Schools is a teacher-training institution and thus contributes to the training, research, and professional development of future and current teachers. With over 1,200 staff members, the schools provide education to more than 9,200 students. Esprit Schools is known for being dynamic, innovative, and decentralized, with a focus on students and educational quality.
The Executive Board (CvB) manages the foundation and exercises authority over the schools. The CvB consists of a chairperson and one member and operates as a collegial body. The CvB is responsible for matters that transcend individual schools and for establishing the frameworks for educational, personnel, financial, and facilities policies. The Supervisory Board oversees the achievement of the goals, the policies, and the general affairs of Esprit Schools and provides both solicited and unsolicited advice. In its capacity as employer, the Supervisory Board also evaluates the performance of the Executive Board. The Supervisory Board consists of six members, and three committees operate within the board: the Audit Committee, the Quality, Education, and Governance Committee, and the Remuneration Committee.
