TheElisabeth Strouven Fundis a unique private endowment fund based in Maastricht with a rich history dating back to 1963. With the goal of creating social impact, the fund focuses on the themesof people,culture, andnature. The fund supports projects that contribute to society in the areas of education, participation, and (talent) development, while also fostering innovation and collaboration. With substantial assets and an independent approach, the Elisabeth Strouven Fund (ESF) plays a vital role in the social, cultural, and natural spheres and is also a pioneer.

The Supervisory Board plays a crucial role in safeguarding the fund’s mission, vision, and governance. The Supervisory Board is currently seeking two new members to strengthen this mission: one with a cultural background and one with a financial background.

About the Elisabeth Strouven Fund

The fund is named after Elisabeth Strouven, who, in the 17th century, was always there for anyone in need. Headstrong and enterprising, she was a strong woman who forged her own path and dedicated her life to helping the sick and poor. Today, Elisabeth Strouven embodies the philosophy and mindset we share, the movement we see around us and actively promote. People who don’t look away, but take action and do good for others. Seeking each other out and working together to make a difference. Guided by this philosophy, the ESF supports initiatives in the areas of people, culture, and nature in Maastricht and the surrounding region.

The fund distinguishes itself through its focus on proactivity and social impact. With projects such asthe Rink—a multifunctional, citywide facility that symbolizes connection and participation—the fund has reinvented itself. Guided by the core values of strength and innovation, all projects emphasize collaboration, innovation, and sustainability. Whether it involves nature-inclusive agriculture, support for inclusive cultural initiatives, or social projects, the Elisabeth Strouven Fund stands fordoing good. The fund provides grants for projects submitted to it, but also initiates projects on its own.

The Board of Supervisors

The Supervisory Board consists of passionate professionals from diverse backgrounds whose expertise and perspectives complement one another. Together, they foster an open, dynamic, and critical culture that encourages new ideas and ensures a strong vision for the future. The Supervisory Board meets approximately four times a year and also invests in its own development by holding strategic sessions, conducting self-evaluations, and making working visits to the projects.

As an ESF supervisor, we believe it is important that you possess the following qualities:

  • Alignment with the fund’s DNA:You have an intrinsic motivation to make a difference; you care deeply about society, culture, and nature. “Doing good” is central to your approach. You embrace the role of ambassador for the fund.
  • A balance between professionalism and commitment:respectful, warm professionalism. Room to be critical and engage in constructive dialogue.
  • Team role:Collaboration based on equality, with an active and engaged attitude. Openness and diversity of perspectives are valued.
  • Innovative and enterprising:the fund is looking for people who see opportunities, think in terms of possibilities, and dare to be innovative. Not a conservative mindset, but boldness and vision.
  • Inclusivity and diversity:diversity in background, experience, age, and culture is encouraged. The fund aims to reflect society as a whole.
  • Flexibility and governance:a clear sense of purpose in oversight, with a bird’s-eye view. Trust in the organization and the team, while remaining focused on key decisions. You embrace a “new style of oversight”: being open, transparent, and vulnerable, while remaining eager to learn and ask the right questions.

Cultural Profile

As a cultural affairs supervisor, you are a creative and strategic bridge-builder. You understand the challenges and opportunities of cultural initiatives and are open to innovative ideas that align with the fund’s inclusive and participatory approach. You don’t just think in terms of individual projects; you see the bigger picture of the connection between culture and society. You can assess projects based on their quality and impact, but you can also identify and propose important developments yourself.
The ESF is committed to talent development: for this position, prior experience in oversight is not required. If desired, we can provide coaching or training in the area of governance.

What to bring:

  • A background in cultural entrepreneurship, preferably in Maastricht and the surrounding area;
  • an affinity for innovative and inclusive cultural projects;
  • experience in bridging different fields, such as culture and society;
  • an entrepreneurial mindset, with an eye for both impact and sustainability;
  • a fresh, creative perspective and the ability to think outside the box.

Financial Profile

As a financial specialist, you will contribute your strategic expertise and financial analysis skills, and you will chair the audit committee. You understand the dynamics of asset management and social return. This is not just about the numbers, but above all about the story behind the numbers: how financial decisions contribute to impact. You will contribute ideas on investment strategies, financial statement analyses, and financial governance, while also keeping an eye on the bigger picture. Candidates from all over the Netherlands are welcome.

What to bring:

  • Extensive experience in financial roles, preferably within complex organizations with a social mission;
  • an understanding of and commitment to social impact as a measure of performance;
  • experience with governance and serving as a supervisor;
  • a critical, analytical mindset, with an eye for opportunities and risks;
  • enthusiasm for working in an entrepreneurial, diverse team.

What do we offer?

  • A dynamic role in an ambitious, entrepreneurial organization with a strong commitment to social responsibility;
  • You will be part of a dedicated and diverse board of directors;
  • A role where you can use your expertise to bring about real social change;
  • Opportunities for professional development, such as training in supervision.
  • Compensation that is consistent with the fund’s values and also reflects the investment required for the role of supervisor.
